Taylor Townsite Knotweed SMACKDOWN, June 18th!
Knotweed
Knotweed has thick hollow stems

Knotweed's not going to know what hit it! The destructive, bamboo-like, invasive plant, known as knotweed, has overtaken seven acres of the abandoned industrial town of Taylor, nestled in the Cedar River Municipal Watershed.

On June 18th, from 9am to 3pm, volunteers will have the chance to bend the canes of this enormous plant to prepare it for treatment and removal. The event is limited to the first 50 volunteers, so sign up today!  Vanpools are available from Seattle.

Calling All Citizen Scientists!
VHR Education
Students receive instruction on water monitoring
Join our new Citizen Scientist team!  Help collect data and monitor habitat restoration sites along the Cedar River. Restoration is important, but monitoring the success of our restoration helps ensure that our efforts last for the long-term.  Learn to identify plants, set up monitoring plots, and collect data on ecological characteristics such as soil textures.  This program is an excellent activity for youth and school groups.

Spring on the River

O sun, shine hot on the river;

For the ice is turning an ashen hue,

And the still bright water is looking through,

And the myriad streams are greeting you

With a ballad of life to the giver,

From forest and field and sunny town,

Meeting and running and tripping down,

With laughter and song to the river.
