Sponsoring Wishes...One Wish at a Time

Yolany's WishThe South Carolina is chapter is getting back to basics with our new grassroots fundraising campaign "One Wish at a Time."

Historically the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Carolina has never been very aggressive with our fundraising efforts. We have always worked very hard with great integrity and the funds to grant wishes have been available. No doubt, times have changed and we are now forced to step up our efforts to insure every qualified child is granted their one heartfelt wish.

"One Wish at at Time" is a time-sensitive and measurable fundraising campaign that allows supporters to focus their energy and resources on granting the one wish of a select child in their very own community. This campaign is not just about raising money but more about granting a specific child's wish.

Already, supporters such as Jarden Process Solutions and Lindsey's Little Miracles are making a difference by raising $5,000 and $7,500 respectively, to grant the wishes of children in their area.

The featured children had no choice about getting sick or about the economic challenges we are facing in our state. What we do know is; we can't let a child down who needs to experience the hope, strength and joy that a wish provides.

Simply put...wishes can't wait!

Cold Stone Creamery's "World's Largest Ice Cream Social"

On Thursday, Sept. 30 from 5-8 p.m., nearly 1,300 Cold Stone Creamery®locations nationwide, including all South Carolina stores, will host the 9th annual "World's Largest Ice Cream Social" to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. During the event, ice cream lovers will receive a FREE three-ounce serving of Kate'sCreation. In return, guests are encouraged to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Kate's Creation is caramel apple ice cream mixed with graham cracker pie crust, chocolate shavings and apple pie filling. Wish kid Kate is an 11-year-old from Tampa, Fla. Kate's wish was to create an exclusive Creation for the "World's Largest Ice Cream Social" after attending last year's event. This made her the perfect choice for this year's Cold Stone Creamery wish kid.

Donate Your Frequent Flier Miles

Because many wishes involve air travel donating your airline miles is a great way to help grant wishes. By donating your airline miles you're helping the Make-A-Wish Foundation grant travel wishes that require an estimated 2.5 billion airline miles yearly.

Please be sure to advantage of these wonderful opportunities to help make a wish come true!

Does Your Group Want to Sponsor A Wish?
kids for wish kidsThere are many ways your group can make difference in a child's life. Please check out the following programs specifically designed to help YOU make a wish come true!

Kids For Wish Kids

The Kids For Wish Kids program helps to increase awareness of the Make-A-Wish Foundation®'s mission and involves more people in helping to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Kids For Wish Kids is managed by kids like you!
But Kids For Wish Kids does much more than that - it fosters the value of community service by providing you with hands-on experience in helping to grant wishes through your local Make-A-Wish® chapter. It also provides a mechanism for building school spirit and creating an additional partnership between children and teachers outside of the classroom. With the help of a dedicated staff member, your class or school can be on the way to raising money for a fellow child's wish in no time!

Adopt-A-Wish
Adopt-A-WishFor many donors, their support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation began after hearing a child's heartwarming wish story and feeling the joy it brought to everyone involved. Now donors can create that same joy for another wish child through the national Adopt-A-Wish program. For each child's wish, the Make-A-Wish Foundation covers all expenses associated with the experience for the entire family. The Adopt-A-Wish program allows our generous donors to fund the entire cost of a child's wish.

A member of our staff will work directly with you to select a wish. Most wishes fall into one of four categories: I wish to go..., I wish to have..., I wish to be..., I wish to meet.... But a wish can be as creative as a child can imagine. By funding a wish, you can create special memories for a child-and yourself. Adopt-A-Wish is appropriate for all ages, groups, clubs and organizations.

For more information on how to get started with Kids For Wish Kids or Adopt-A-Wish, please contact Mary Silverberg at mlkaresh@yahoo.com.

Wish Testimonial
Austin's Wish to the Grand Canyon
This testimonial comes to us from the family of 17-year-old Austin from Greenwood. Austin is suffering from Spina Bifida and his wish was to visit the Grand Canyon for his 17th Birthday! We would like to thank his family for sharing their experience with us. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for more pictures of Austin's trip!

We cannot express the emotions in our heart as we left for the Grand Canyon.  Knowing that this time last year we were fighting for our son's life and now he is going to celebrate his 17th birthday in a place he dreams of seeing.  You truly make wishes come true.  I hope the pictures give you some idea of what a wonderful time we had...Austin just kept saying "it looks so beautiful like a picture, like its not real, but we are here!"

God Bless You All
