From the Office
|
Hi there!
Over the past several months your Make-A-Wish chapter has made quite a few updates and changes. We are moving forward with more innovated projects and are excited about how far we've come in only halfway through our year!
As you may have noticed, we now are the proud owners of a new Facebook page, Twitter account and YouTube channel. We would love to have you all become a fan, follow us and subscribe to our channel. There are always exciting things going on so you don't want to miss out!
Another new adventure we have taken on is creating online giving pages for Friends, Family and Fans! A FFF page can be used to reach a massive audience of your friends, family and fans, and have them help you reach your goal by donating to Make-A-Wish online. It's easy to use and you can see your results right on the front page! To set up a FFF page, a minimum goal amount of $1,000 is required. Please contact Tiffany Howard in our Charleston office at thoward@mawfsc.org or 843-853-7880 for more details.
On behalf of the entire Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Carolina staff, we thank you for your continuing support and encouragement for our cause. It is with the help of generous individuals such as yourselves that, together, we can make South Carolina wishes come true. Thank you again and let's continue granting wishes together in 2010!

| The Make-A-Wish
Foundation is ranked in the top 10 of three significant categories of Harris
Interactive's annual EquiTrend® brand equity study, released Thursday, March 4, 2010. The
survey was conducted online among nearly 20,000 consumers in January. The
Foundation placed No. 7 in trust among nonprofits, No. 8 among nonprofits
people are most like to donate to in the future, and No. 9 in brand equity.
Susan G Komen Race for the Cure was top-rated in the most likely to donate and
brand equity categories, while St. Jude Children's Research Hospital took the
No. 1 spot in trust.

Golf, Celebrities, Parties...And You!
|
Have you been looking for a fun way to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation but just haven't found anything to do? Well we've got it!
This year the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Carolina is one
of the 99 benefiting charities for the 2010 BMW Charity Pro-Am. For those of
you who are not familiar with this event, it is a celebrity pro-am tournament
held for four days (May 13-16) at three courses in the Carolinas (Thornblade
Club (Greer, SC); The Carolina Country Club (Spartanburg, SC); and Bright's
Creek Golf Club (Mill Spring, NC)). The gates open at 7am each day, with tee times beginning at
approximately 8am.
The list of celebrities who are scheduled to play so far
include: actors Kurt Russell, Oliver Hudson, Patrick Warburton and Gary
Valentine; Clemson University Head Football Coach Dabo Swinney; CNN news and
weather anchor Rob Marciano; musicians Pat Green, Javier Colon and Steve Azar;
NFL Super Bowl champion Kordell Stewart; LOST actor Terry O'Quinn, Michael
Pena, Kevin Sorbo, Cheech Marin and actress Paula Trickey; musicians Joe Don
Rooney and Branford Marsalis; broadcast journalist and Greenville native
Jennifer Mills; former NFL wide receiver and current NFL analyst Sterling
Sharpe; and Apprentice winner Stefanie Schaeffer.
As a benefiting charity, we are selling Patron Credentials
at $25 each. The credentials are good for all four days of play at any of the
three courses, and all of the proceeds from our sales will come straight back
to Make-A-Wish.
If you would rather help at the event, you can sign up to be a volunteer for Make-A-Wish! Just go to www.bmwcharitygolf.com to register. There is a $40 volunteer fee which comes straight back to Make-A-Wish as well, just be sure to choose us as your charity organization.
We would like to extend this opportunity as another avenue
for you to support the Foundation and help make wishes come true. The passes may be offered to your friends, family, or anyone else who may
be interested. To purchase and redeem the passes, please have your friends and family call our Greenville office at 864-250-0702 or email Heather Pierce at hpierce@mawfsc.org. Thank you in advance for continuing support!

Kids For Wish Kids Are Giving Strong
|
Our Kids For Wish Kids program is growing stronger than ever thanks to elementary and middle schools all across the state. In the recent months we have received nearly $2,000 from supporting schools including: Macedonia Middle School, Conway Middle School, Fort Mill
Middle School and St. Joseph Catholic School.
These students are not only learning the value of giving back and the meaning of philanthropy, but are also making wishes come true for kids in their own communities. Thank you to all of those schools who are holding fundraising projects for Make-A-Wish and granting the wishes of their generation!
If your school would like to participate in our Kids For Wish Kids program, please contact Mary Karesh at mlkaresh@yahoo.com.

Sponsor Updates
|
With the help of our corporate sponsors, Make-A-Wish is able to grant even more wishes across the state. Two sponsors who just wrapped up some big things at the end 2009 are Apple-J and Zaxby's.
Apple-J, a South Carolina franchisee of Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill, presented Make-A-Wish with a check in the amount of $115,000 in January from their 2009 giving campaign. Apple-J has been a sponsor of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Carolina since 2002 and, in that time, has raised nearly $650,000 and granted over 150 wishes! We would like to say a big thank you to all of the servers, managers, directors, other associates, everyone at Apple-J and those who participated. We look forward to another successful campaign in 2010!
18 Zaxby's Restaurants from Charleston, Columbia and Spartanburg held holiday campaigns during November and December of 2009 and raised over $35,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Carolina! Each group of stores chose a local wish child and sold paper and magnetic stars, bracelets and took up donations to help grant their wish. In Charleston, Eli's wish was granted to go to Disney; Columbia granted Christopher's wish to go to Legoland; and in Spartanburg, Jack's wish to go to Disney and Sam's wish to meet Dale Earnhardt Jr. were also granted. Each of the wish children and their families toured the participating stores in their areas in a limousine and met each of the Zaxby's associates who were working hard to make their wishes come true. Make-A-Wish would like to thank everyone involved in the Zaxby's campaigns in Charleston, Columbia and Spartanburg for all of their hard work and the generous support they have provided to make these precious boys' wishes come true!
Please help us support our sponsors who are supporting us by thanking them the next you visit an Applebee's and Zaxby's Restaurant!

Sweet 16 Means Sweet Wishes for Ashley
|
Ashley's wish was to go shopping on her 16th
birthday, which was Tuesday, February 23rd. Volunteer, Penny Sellers, guided Ashley
through her enchanting shopping experience, through The Citadel Mall.
After a day of shopping, Ashley, her family,
Penny, Nichole, and I went over to the Zaxby's on Sam Rittenberg, to celebrate
Ashley's very special day. When the
party began, she excitingly showed off her new beautiful diamond heart necklace
and a second ear piercing, which was just a preview of her new meaningful possessions.
Being a part of this wish was a wonderful
experience! I am so grateful to have the
countless opportunities to take a wish from referral to completion, but being
able to see the ear to ear smile and a limo full of little wishes, was one of
the most gratifying experiences I have ever had. It was literally something else! I am very happy to be able to share these
pictures with you! Enjoy!
Thanks,
Kimberly
