Greetings!
The next edition of The MMY Connection newsletter will be coming out, b'ezrat Hashem, in another month or two. However, as we end the summer and get ready to begin another school year, we decided we did not want to wait to share these two items with you - so we're sending these two articles now.
Hope you enjoy!

Siyum HaShas: Some Reflections on Completing the Daf Yomi Cycle
Mrs. Mali Brofsky
|
On the 14th of Av 5772, tens of thousands of Jews across the world celebrated the 12th Siyum HaShas of the Daf Yomi cycle. One of those many Jews to accomplish this monumental achievement was our very own Mrs. Mali Brofsky, who learned the entire Talmud as one of the founding members of Alon Shvut's women's Daf Yomi shiur. In the below piece, she shares her reflections on this very significant occasion.
When I was thinking about finishing the Daf Yomi cycle, and with whom I wanted share my thoughts at this juncture, the answer came to me readily: I wanted to share my reflections with my MMY Talmidot, whom in many ways I consider my learning community - we have thought together, grappled with texts and ideas together, and grown together, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. In addition, when I think back over the past seven and a half years of the Daf Yomi cycle, I have many memories connected to MMY: finishing up a daf in the MMY bet midrash, having students over on Shabbat joining our morning shiur, and - way back in the very beginning - hosting a shana bet overnight in Alon Shvut and getting everyone to shiur at what felt like really early in the morning (Remember, Shana Bet 5765?).

MMY Summer Travels
|
  | During the summer vacation when there are no talmidot learning in MMY, members of the administration use the opportunity to travel to communities abroad in order to share Torah, see our talmidot in other countries, and meet potential new students for the future.
This past summer Rabbi Haber traveled to Melbourne, Australia where he spent Shabbat Chazon and Tisha B'av. He spoke to students in Bnei Akiva and one of the high schools, spoke in several different shuls and ran a special recitation of the Kinot together with explanations.
He also interviewed students who will be coming to MMY this coming January. From there, he continued on to Johannesburg, South Africa, to meet some future students there as well.
Rabbi Katz, meanwhile, spent a Shabbat in Zurich, Switzerland, where he spoke in a shul and at a Bnei Akiva program, and met with potential students and their parents. He then continued on to the USA where he visited various summer camps, as he does every year.
This annual visit to the summer camps is very meaningful to many of our Talmidot, as the following account by Rebecca Schenker (MMY 5771) makes clear.
