Louis Renault and his brothers founded the Renault Motor Company in 1898. In December that year, Louis drove the first car to Montmartre, to celebrate Christmas with his brothers, and some friends. For a bet, with a passenger sitting next to him, Louis drove up the 13% gradient of the Rue Lepic several times. Impressed that the vehicle was so easy to drive they ordered one on the spot and some of them even made a down payment! On that Christmas evening, Louis Renault took 12 firm orders. |
