How it came about... John and Karen Louis feel blessed to have been located in Southeast Asia for almost a quarter century, and they are grateful for all their friends in the ICOC who have made that possible. They are especially thankful for their Southeast Asia Core Group, as well as the amazing staff and lay leadership of the Singapore church. For the past eleven years,, the Louis and their staff have been trained in many aspects of counselling and communication, and have been integrating their skills into a unique toolbox of both biblical and therapeutic expertise. In order to meet the needs of their congregation in Singapore, John and Karen put together several workshops for marriage and family, which have profoundly helped their ministries in Asia. "I Choose Us!" (ICU) - a 6-session marriage programme, and "Good Enough Parenting" (GEP) - an 8-part parenting programme, were originally conceived as strengthening programmes for their members, but have now evolved into also being evangelistic in nature. As others have heard about the success of these workshops, the Louis have received numerous requests to equip other leaders in the ICOC to be able to replicate these programmes. How to sign up... If you or anyone from your congregation would like to learn how to deliver these programmes, John and Karen will be conducting training from 3 - 7 January 2012 in Nassau, Bahamas. Participants will be certified as Facilitators in both programmes: "I Choose Us" and "Good Enough Parenting".

"I CHOOSE US"
When couples seek help only after emotional wounds have been inflicted, the deep pain makes it difficult for them to have hope that their relationship would ever get any better. We believe that early education and intervention can make the difference. As grandma said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
Good healthy marriages have far-reaching consequences, affecting not just each couple but future generations. Marriages built on Love Connection will not just survive but will thrive, and impart untold benefits on the family and on society.
This Movie Therapy workshop, along with the corresponding "I Choose Us" book, is meant to be "an ounce of prevention" for some of you, and we hope that for others, it will provide the "pound of cure" that you need. Nothing would make us happier than thinking that couples around the world are taking each other by the hand, looking each other in the eye, and saying, "I Choose Us!"

 "Good Enough Parenting"
Research has shown that when core needs are not met during the formative years of a child, "Lifetraps" (schemas) will develop. These core needs are: - Connection & Acceptance
- Effective Autonomy & Performance
- Adequate Limits
- Realistic Expectations
And the "plus-one" need of
- Spiritual Awareness & Direction
While no one's parenting can ever be perfect, "Good Enough Parenting" offers a step-by-step guide on how parents can learn to meet these core needs, and provide parenting that is "good-enough" to prevent Lifetraps from developing in their children. "Good Enough Parenting" - a series of eight parenting workshops - was developed by John and Karen Louis and is based on Schema Therapy founded by Dr. Jeffrey Young.
"In a world of too much information, 'Good Enough Parenting' uses movies to teach parents how to MEET CORE NEEDS, and, at the same time, how to avoid passing down their own dysfunctional behaviors. Schema Therapy has been successful with adults, but I have always wanted to see someone do something on preventing schemas, or Lifetraps, in children, and here it is!"
~ Dr Jeffrey Young Dept of Psychiatry, Columbia University, USA Founder, Schema Therapy

What people say about "I Choose Us"...
I wanted to learn more about myself, so I could better help others. I received more than I could have hoped for. This training is clean, in depth and very user friendly. I am excited about the growth and progress I am confident will come. These training modules are A+ winners.
~ Guy Berndt, Jacksonville, USA
Excellent Straightforward course with irrefutable stats to justify the concepts. I look forward to sharing it with the marrieds in Scotland!
~ Ben Brady, Edinburgh, UK
Most often many will come to a resolve "I choose me" because there are so few practical and hopeful means that will assure them that "I choose us" is real and attainable. This book by far is the best in getting to the core of many marital failures and bring help and healing to marital bliss.
~ Tresanay Cannon, Indianapolis, USA
"I choose us" has already changed my marriage! Through understanding more of the root of my behavior and why the negative patterns in my relationship to my wife is occuring, "I choose us" has given me a path to how to get unstuck and to how we can meet each other's needs in our marriage.
~ Ronny Yttrehus, Norway
"I choose us" Is an amazing opportunity to equip your marriage with useful tools that will work for a lifetime! I have already seen the benefits and will be watching movies with greater focus and enjoyment!!
~ Robin Barnes, South Florida, USA
I feel the analogy used within the course is really helpful in identifying where I am at in my marriage. The clear specifics on the core needs to be met in order to maintain a healthy marriage are a great toolbox for practical steps my spouse and I can take to actively build our marriage and make it flourish.
~ Fanney Frisback, Iceland
It helps you to be more vulnerable and therefore get closer to your spouse. You also learn what triggers each other and how you can deal with that.
~ Marit Mulelid, Norway
I loved how the movies brought the points to life. As young marrieds, I feel very lucky and grateful to have learned much about marriage. It has helped me to understand why my husband and myself act the way we do.
~ Erin Oluwalana, South Florida, USA

What people say about "Good Enough Parenting"...
If you want to raise your children to develop inner strength to become their best, come and get trained how to parent them good enough.
~ Henning Hamre, Norway
"Good Enough Parenting" has been a great eye-opener and a strong motivator to make every effort to meet all the core needs of my children, not only those that come as the most "natural" to me.
~ Ronny Yttrehus, Norway
Meets one of our greatest needs by training us to pass along to our children principles that will help them avoid lifetraps we have fallen into.
~ Paul Ramsey, Columbia, USA
This training not only helped me personally; but will be irreplaceable in redirecting our teen ministry. It will help us have healthier families.
~ Candy Ramsey, Columbia, USA
Very good class to learn how to meet the needs of children, develop close relationships in family settings and give them tools for living healthy lives.
~ JP Tynes, Orlando, USA
"Good Enough Parenting" is an intensively emotional experience that could help any parent learn about themselves as well as how to parent in a healthy way.
~ Patricia Tynes, Orlando, USA
I strongly value the emphasis on needs of kids rather than focus on problems of kids. I have a very proactive direction now as a parent.
~ David Bruce, Los Angeles, USA
Thanks for giving me an understanding of the importance of the core needs of children and equipping me with tools to meet them.
~ Beate Daae Rognli, Norway
