Basic Certificate in
Schema and Movie Therapy

(Pre-Approved for 60% VCF Funding)
1-3 September 2010 | Singapore

This Basic Certificate in Schema and Movie TherapyTM Course is specially designed for social workers, psychologists, counsellors, and family educators who have an interest in expanding their skills to help "difficult to treat patients".

Schema therapy is a powerful integrated model of therapy that has been highly successful in treating patients with long term chronic psychological Axis-II disorders, including borderline personality disorder. Many professionally trained Schema therapists have had huge successes in Holland and Germany in treating such patients.

This certification will help prospective participants to reassess their difficult-to-treat patients, especially cases which need a "breakthrough". Even though participants will not be qualified schema therapists after taking this course, they will be equipped to integrate schema therapy principles into their present counselling approach.

Participants will be trained in the administering of Dr. Jeffrey Young's Schema Inventory. This will enable participants to make use of one of the most helpful aspects of Schema Therapy, which is its very systematic way of assessing patients' dysfunctional thoughts, rather than leaving it to the therapists' own intuition and experience. This provides for accurate assessment and diagnosis of patients, and therefore a proper treatment plan relating to their current life problems.
Participants will also learn to select appropriate movies that are related to their patients' life issues. A combination of schema therapy with the usage of movies will be able to uniquely offer solutions that are not readily available in the local context.
