For your good health...

BENEFITS SERVICE WELLNESS NEWSLETTER

 February 2012

Greetings! ,

Synod welcomes all of our Benefit Participants to our free 2012 Wellness Program!  We will be sending health articles, health tips, and information from our insurance carriers, as well as other reputable online health sources.  Our hope is to make this an interactive, fun, interesting, helpful, and HEALTHY program that motivates employees to invest in improving their health as well as the health of those around them!

ANNUAL PHYSICALS AND TAKING AN ONLINE HEALTH ASSESSMENT TEST
As a first step to better health, we would like to encourage Benefit Participants to take a Free Health Assessment Test online.  It is easiest to complete this form with your most recent annual physical exam information on-hand.  If you haven't completed an annual physical recently, we encourage you to do so!  At the following Doctor's Visit, be pro-active by asking the tough questions.  If you aren't a medical participant with Anthem or Kaiser, you can find free health assessment tests online, such as the one from RealAge that I've included below.

HEALTHY ACTIVITIES
Do you want to get started on becoming more physically active?  Read this article.  How much physical activity is needed to stay in good health? Here are some recommendations. One of the simplest and most beneficial physical activities you can do to improve your health is walking.  Not only does walking improve overall health, but read how walking can improve mental health (viewed on www.preventdisease.com on 2/1/12, original source: www.healthcentral.com)!  If you are currently enrolled in one of Anthem Blue Cross' medical plans, please email [email protected] for a free walking pedometer to count your steps.
IN THE KITCHEN
In our busy lives, we are often looking for simple delicious recipes for dinner.  Why not make a simple meal that is also healthy? As part of the Synod Wellness Program, we'd like employees' participation IN THE KITCHEN.  Do you have a simple healthy recipe that you'd like to share?  If so, please email [email protected] with your name, church name and location - I will post your recipe on one of my future emails.  Here are some winter recipes from www.RealAge.comSalmon Chowder and Sauteed Spinach with Pine Nuts and Golden Raisins. If a Benefit Participant has any particular health topics that you would like to learn more about, please email me and I will work on including these topics in future emails.  Also, I have sent a copy of this email to Church Emails for Benefit Service Information.  Please forward this email to your Synod Benefit Participants in case they have not yet provided me with their email address.  They can send their name & email address to [email protected] to be added to my Wellness Program email list.

Best wishes to your Good Health!
