BRIDGE BULLETIN
News for Friends of The Bridge Teen Center

August 2010
Greetings!

We appreciate your interest in The Bridge Teen Center.  As you know, our doors opened on June 5th, and this summer has been a real whirlwind.  Students are finding their way to The Bridge from as far away as Kankakee and Carol Stream!  We are excited about what is in store for the organization this fall.  If you aren't already an active volunteer or donor, please consider getting involved now.  The generosity of people like you form the very foundation of The Bridge Teen Center.  YOU have the ability to positively impact a young life.

BTC Summer Program Summary

What does Meijer, JC Penney, Hershey's, and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission all have in common?  They all partnered with The Bridge this summer on a variety of free programs for teens!  Programming at The Bridge officially kicked off in June with a special program conducted by a team of young professionals from Hershey's, who tackled the topic of finding, interviewing, and keeping a job. More than 20 students attended this event, which was also supported by JC Penney in Orland Park.

In July, Meijer's regional chef and dietician also conducted a program at The Bridge that
taught students how to prepare healthy snacks.  Students also walked over to the new Meijer store, and were given a tour that taught them how to shop for healthier ingredients.  Throughout the summer, The Bridge has also teamed up with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, who have provided workshops about researching potential careers.  A number of other programs were offered in June, July and August, including several art and culinary programs.

Thus far, The Bridge has had well over 200 visits to the storefront facility in Orland Park!
