WINSA Temporarily Closed

The Wisconsin Naval Ship Association will be temporarily closing its Military Heritage Museum and Education Center (824 South 8th Street in Sheboygan) to accommodate heavy equipment and truck traffic needed for dredging of the Sheboygan River from the 8th Street Bridge to Penn Avenue Bridge.

The Harbor dredging project will remove low-impact sediment providing a 10-16 foot navigation channel. All dredging activities will be operating 24 hours per day, 7 days of the week.

Marine equipment such as sediment transport barges, sectional barges, dredging barges and work tugs are being used. Dredging operations will start in early August and continue through November.  View link of Dredging Project Milestones

Both the north and south sides of the WINSA building are needed to access the river for this project. We will reopen our facility when traffic, parking and access issues are restored.

We are planning a grand opening spectacular January 2013.

Day of Caring
"Day of Caring"  - July 20

WINSA was the recipient of the Sheboygan County Volunteer Center's "Day Of Caring". This is a special day when area businesses let their employees help non-profit groups in completing their projects.

WINSA's project was to remove about 4,200 square feet of old carpet in the designated museum area. Twenty-one hard working men and women from Aurora Health Care removed the old carpet in 1.5 hours (we had estimated it would take 4-5 hours).

The Wisconsin Naval Ship Association would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to the Volunteer Center of Sheboygan County for putting this great event together. We would especially like to give a big "pat on the back" to the twenty-one wonderful, hard-working folks from Aurora Health Care who did a great job!
