USS CANON SIGNAL

April, 2010

 To WINSA members/supporters,
D Robinson
A heartfelt 'thank you' to Vice Admiral David Robinson and his wife Rebecca.   The Vice Admiral and WINSA's Director of Development had the opportunity to meet with several hundred community and business leaders from Green Bay to Milwaukee in his short two weeks with us.   The Vice Admiral shared with us many personal stories of his time as Commander of the USS Canon.    We look forward to sharing with many of you a video of an interview of the Vice Admiral and a slide show of photographs of the Canon and her crew.   Thank you Vice Admiral David Robinson.

WRITE FROM THE HELM ~
Pledges have begun to come in as supporters secure naming rights of features of the ship.   Watch for our May newsletter as we release some of the exciting news.

One tidbit I will share with you right now -- Dennis Bersch, long time support of WINSA put out a challenge at the Yacht Club last Thursday and we secured 17 mile sponsors that evening.  Why not consider becoming one of the mile sponsors.

Receive a certificate suitable for framing and recognition in the Naval Museum & Education Center of Sheboygan.    This certificate will be stamped with the official seal of the Sheboygan Naval Reserve Center - making it a true treasure for years to come.

SPONSOR THE JOURNEY TO SHEBOYGAN
Canon Tow Map

One of the major expenses of bringing the USS Canon to Sheboygan is the cost of the towing. Why not consider sponsoring a mile ($125 per mile) of this 3,200+ mile trip from Philadelphia to Sheboygan.   Wisconsin Naval Ship Association is a 501c3 and donations are tax deductible. Send checks to WINSA/NAVMEC 3120 S. Business Drive, Suite 140, Sheboygan, WI  53081. The map of the journey can also be found at the museum facebook page or at www.usscanon.com.

Donations can be made quickly
by mail to WINSA, 3120 S. Business Drive, Suite 140, Sheboygan, WI  53081 or call the museum 920-254-8777 and charge your sponsorship.

Why not sponsor a mile in recognition of that special relative -- a veteran, someone close to you and your family or a veteran currently serving our country.

OR....your youth group, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.  can do a fund raiser and sponsor a mile.

OR....maybe your workplace would like to do a fund raiser to sponsor a mile.

ALL mile sponsors will receive a certificate suitable for framing and will be recognized inside the Naval Museum & Education Center of Sheboygan.

HISTORY BEING CAPTURED

With assistance of Silverwater
video cameraProductions, Plymouth Wisconsin and Lakeland College history students,  WINSA is interviewing veterans from ANY branch of service from any war, or conflict.   These interviews are being recorded digitally and will be available to search and view at the Naval Museum & Education Center, as well as available for use by other groups and schools.

If you know of a veteran that might like to be interviewed, a veteran that has a personal story to share, please give the museum a call at 920-254-8777.

These veterans deserve the honor and recognition due them for their service to our country.
As you plan your charitable giving for 2010 please be sure to ask your financial advisor Financial Planningfor the best way to plan your charitable giving.   There is legislation being considered that could impact your giving.

WINSA is a recognized 501c3 and we will provide documentation for donations received.

One of the quickest ways you can help support the arrival of the USS Canon to Sheboygan -- consider honoring a veteran by sponsoring a mile of the USS Canon's trip to Sheboygan.

Consider leaving the museum in your will....or as a benefactor of a life insurance policy that you have.   Call the museum for more information 920-254-8777.

Donations can be made quickly & safely  by mailing to: WINSA, 3120 S. Business Drive, Suite 140, Sheboygan, WI

Sincerely,

 Cadets
Founded in 2008, Training Ship Abingdon was established to provide a resource for children in the Sheboygan, Ozaukee and Manitowoc areas.

With children aging from 10-14, the NLCC helps it's members by providing them with a positive peer and a structured mentor environment with   emphasis on the 3 core
values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.
