WRITE FROM THE HELM ~ |
There are many interesting and exciting plans and events going on right now for the Wisconsin Naval Ship Association and the Naval Museum and Education Center that everyone needs to know about. The WINSA Board of Directors has had some additional changes that the membership needs to be made aware of. Capt. Richard Caswell has decided to step down from the board. Dick will still be WINSA's President Emeritus, a member of the Acquisition Team and our "Go To" guy concerning the many questions that will pop up with the plan to berth the USS Canon in Sheboygan. We again say "Thank You" for all the time and energy he has put into WINSA. The largest and most important item that everyone needs to understand and help with is WINSA's upcoming Capital Campaign. Our Development Team is working very hard putting the final touches on the organization of the full group and the steering committee. There will be a large number of varied projects within the campaign that volunteers can choose from to be involved in this program. This is a huge undertaking that will require the efforts of many, many volunteers to make this the success we need it to be. If you have any questions concerning what is going on within WINSA or NAVMEC feel free to contact Larry Hinkelman @ 920 452 9446 or email palh@powercom.net or Char Pachniak @ 920-254-1584 or email char@pachniak.com "FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS!"

INTERVIEWS OF VETERAN'S UNDERWAY |
| Thanks to many various groups, organizations and individuals, our interviews of veterans are underway. Lakeland College history department is assisting with compiling the data base of local veterans that have served in various branches of service, in various military actions and are still alive. JJ Burkart of Silverwater Productions and his intern Megan Thompson will be assisting with recording and editing. Konrad Kaczkowski will be conducting the interviews; he works part time for TV-14 in Plymouth. He is also very involved with the American Legion. We will also be researching past projects with a goal of this becoming a searchable data base for viewing at the Naval Museum & Education Center as well as available to other historical research entities and educational groups such as schools and libaries. Early Bird Rotary of Sheboygan is also a sponsor of this project. If you or someone you know is interested in being interviewed, please call the museum at 920-254-8777. |

VICE ADMIRAL DAVID ROBINSON TO VISIT SHEBOYGAN |
Vice Admiral David Robinson was the Commanding Officer of the USS Canon while she served in Vietnam. There were two significant battles on the rivers of Vietnam. For this action, members of her crew were rewarded for their heroism with three Silver Stars, five Bronze Stars, a Navy Commendation Medal and fourteen Purple Hearts. Vice Admiral Robinson will be visiting in Sheboygan for a few weeks this coming March. You have an opportunity to host a private reception for friends, or you can sponsor a table at our dinner at the Sheboygan Yacht Club. For more details, call the museum at 820-254-8777.
