Data connect cow lameness with cow comfort

When we look at how some of our management strategies affect rumination in cattle, we can see that how we group cattle, crowd them and design barns can also change the way the rumen functions. This change in function may have various health and production effects, and this may include lameness.

We've just broken ground on our new global headquarters

As I've mentioned in this e-letter before, your success is our success. Diamond V has provided all-natural, research-proven nutritional fermentation products since 1943 and our commitment to helping our customers succeed has enabled Diamond V to continue investing in research and technologies that make our products even better. It also enables us to deploy top-tier science that illustrates and validates how Diamond V ingredients work in your animals. And now, we have the latest testament to that mutual benefit between you--our customer--and our company: a new global headquarters and expansion of our manufacturing facilities.

Last month we broke ground on a new, $4.5
million, 17,000 sq. ft. worldwide headquarters in Cedar Rapids, IA. It is scheduled to open in July 2012. The new headquarters will support a 65-percent increase in administrative, technical and sales support staff and provide additional space for training and client meetings. The planned new high-technology headquarters is being located on the 77-acre Diamond V campus in Cedar Rapids. The campus also contains a recently constructed manufacturing plant and ample room for expansion. The campus' manufacturing plant is undergoing a $12.5 million expansion, hiking production capacity by 40 percent. The expansion enables Diamond V to deliver its industry-best customer service while keeping pace with growing demand in the United States and worldwide.

Our President and CEO John Bloomhall says it best: "Our continued growth results from a singular focus on microbial fermentation technology, really understanding the technology, and being the best in the world at using it."

Our producer customers have allowed us the privilege of demonstrating our world-class technology on their farms ...and in their financial statements...every day. We owe our exciting expansion to that privileged trust. If you are ever in Cedar Rapids, please stop by. We'd love to show you the new digs!

A Wisconsin dairy rolls out the green carpet

The lines are wide and deep for breakfast at Dairy Dreams on June 12

in Casco, WI.

What's the definition of being sociable?  How about having 5,000 to 6,000 of your closest friends over for breakfast on a Sunday. Dairy Dreams, LLC, in Casco WI near Green Bay, felt very sociable June 12 as it hosted "Breakfast on the Farm," an annual part of June Dairy Month, sponsored by Kewaunee County Dairy Promotion.

Dr. Don Niles, DVM, and John Pagel, owners of Dairy Dreams, a 2800-cow dairy, offered up the farm to help promote the much vaunted dairy industry in Wisconsin. On the menu were omelettes ("the biggest you've ever seen"), homemade pizza, cheese curds and sticks, strawberry sundaes, milk and yogurt.

The scrambled egg cooking team turns up the volume at Dairy Dreams'

 Breakfast on the Farm.

The staff of Dairy Dreams conducted tours of the dairy, and the promotion board set up educational exhibits under a tent, highlighting various feed and forage components, cow genetics, and conservation practices.

All in all, not a bad way to get a great breakfast and learn about your state's leading industry all in one morning.
