 As a car wash operator I get this question more
often than any other question out there. It is important for people to know what
to do when it comes to the proper care of the exterior of their car. One
vital part of information everyone should know is how crucial it is to keep a
coat of wax over the surface of your car.
Since the introduction of clear-coat
paint into the domestic market in the mid-1980s, there has been a misconception
that clear-coat systems do not need protection. Look at any neglected clear
coat and you will immediately see that automobiles still need waxing. Prior to
the introduction of clear-coat, wax was used to protect the colors of the cars
that would fade over time. Today we use wax to protect the clear coat on the
surface of our cars; we have to understand that the clear coat is a reflective
thin layer of paint, in which every imperfection stands out. It will begin to
look dull if not washed and waxed often enough. But the dullness is not from
color change but from imperfections in the gloss.
People worry that washing
their car too often will remove the wax, but what really does it are UV rays
and heat.Wax breaks down at temperatures of 95 to 100 degrees, and in
Texas all you have to do is feel the surface of your car on a hot summer day to
understand why you need to wax your car often.
