Spring Fling Planning Committee

Holmes Elementary's 50th birthday celebration will be this Spring. We are looking for volunteers to help with planning this FREE fun filled event. It is open to students, parents, friends, family and everyone in the community. If you would like to be involved with planning or volunteering in any one of several ways, please contact Chris Herndon, Community Events Chair.

Next Saturday (Jan. 21), the Chili's at the Clairemont Square (4060 Clairemont Mesa Blvd) will be hosting Dining for Dollars from 11 am to closing.

The PTA is on the lookout for parents who would like to help out with Spring Fling, Silent Auction, and Yearbook editor.

Movie Night at Holmes

February 3rd, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Movie night at Holmes will feature a film suitable for all family members.  
 
This is a community event and there is no charge for admission.  This is NOT a drop off event. Children will need an adult with them to attend.
 
The Dawg Cart will be on campus to sell Sabrett hot dogs and popcorn.  There will also be drinks and candy for sale.  All refreshments will be available for purchase starting at 5:30.  
 
Please bring blankets or low chairs to sit on, just like in the park.  The PTA is requesting a donation of a ream of copy paper to help support our school.  This is not required to attend the movie, but would be greatly appreciated :)

Student Recognition Assemblies this week:  Tuesday, Jan. 17th  1:30 p.m. Kindergarten and 1st grade; 2:30 p.m.  4th, 5th and 6th and then Thursday, Jan. 19th 2:30 p.m. 2nd and 3rd grades.

Last year, Holmes tested in the upper half for fitness, (53%).  We know we can do better than that. Starting in February, 5th grade students be tested for the California State Fitnessgram®.

Like academics, parental involvement is is crucial and necessary to success.  

Parents are invited to come exercise with the 5th Graders on Mondays.  There are 2 morning times (9:15 and 11:25) and one afternoon session (2:35 pm)
 
The class is led by 2 certified fitness professionals who are happy to field whatever inquiries you may have  Valerie Norris or Lisa Johnson

 

Food Drive Success!

Holmes Food Drive was a great success again this year. Our grand total came to3,047 food donations! What a wonderful total.

 

We wish to thank parents Mr. Oceguera, Mr. Nowland, and Mrs. Alarcon for all their hard work in the collection and counting of all the items. 

 

This outpouring of donations shows what a great community we have here at Holmes Elementary. Thank you all!

 

SDGE Energy Innovation Center, January 18th

Please join us at the Energy Innovation Center on January 18 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm for a Community Open House which will include:

  • Guided tours of the Center and Smart Home
  • Demos in our Food Service Demonstration Kitchen
  • Interactive kiosks and exhibits

There will be a tour for parents interested in Holmes on January 20th.

It begins with an orientation in the auditorium at 9:00 a.m., immediately followed with visits to the classrooms.
