Ask not what your PTA can do for you...The PTA is a collection of volunteer parents and family members that help our students achieve in our gem of a local school.
We actually need people to help us find people to help. We have a nominating committee that helps us find parents and volunteers to help accomplish all of the awesome events that make this school so special. Great schools need great parents. Also, even if the joining the Board isn't in your future, it's never too late to join the PTA as a member.

Spring Fling Planning Committee
| | Article SubheadingHolmes Elementary's 50th birthday celebration will be this Spring. We are looking for volunteers to help with planning this FREE fun filled event. It is open to students, parents, friends, family and everyone in the community. The Wizard of Oz is the play that the children will be learning. Wednesdays from 1:20-2:50 pm for 10 weeks, your child can participate in the fun, confidence boosting activity. The program runs from Wednesday, 1/11/12, to Wednesday 3/15/12 (10 weeks)

| Holmes rocks the tests, again... | | Article SubheadingScience proficiency testing for Holmes's 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders is in and our grades came in at 90%, 92%, and 85% proficient or advanced.

| Cheer Clinic | | Article SubheadingClairemont High is having a cheer clinic, Saturday, January 14th. $20 gets your child a 4 hour clinic. | Mileage Club! | | Article SubheadingTime to make good on that New Year's resolution and what better way than to run with the young?
The Token days for January 2012 are on Tuesdays, January 3rd and 17th at 8:30AM.
The Traveling Trophy will be awarded February 1st to the 2nd Grade class with the most miles logged for January 2012.

5th Grade Fitness Test
| |  Article Subheading All 5th grade students will be taking the California State Fitnessgram® Test as early as February! In an effort to improve our 53% score, fitness-minded parents are teaming up to design and implement a supplemental fitness program. 5th graders will be coming home for the holidays with "healthy homework" to jumpstart their progress.
Parents you can keep off holiday pounds and have fun with your kids by doing homework together! (To see the healthy homework assignment click here.)

A look to week ahead
| | Article SubheadingRemember, Monday, January 16th is a holiday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King. Fittingly, student recognition assemblies will be Tuesday and Thursday.
Tuesday begins with Kindergarten and First Grade from 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM. Fourth through 6th will be from 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM Second and Third Grade are Thursday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. These assemblies are key to the strong sense of community that the students at Holmes feel and express. We encourage parents, siblings, and family celebrate our continuing successes at Holmes. |
