Spring Fling this Saturday

Spring Fling Agenda

Time to dust off your favorite Star Wars costume, strap on your Mork suspenders or break out that trusty transporter - better yet, all three... it's time to Space Out (ie: dress up) for Holmes 49th birthday party Spring Fling!

Holmes will be hosting their community event which includes live music and dance performances, our 3rd annual cake show - Outer Space, a-shop-in-a-black-light-and-laser room silent auction, theme basket raffle, free family games and activities, book exchange, pet adoption & care, small car show, fresh food vendors including grass-fed beef burgers, arts and crafts booths and e-recycling. This year we are working with the Madison and Clairemont clusters by inviting all our Clairemont schools to attend the event with the hope of igniting a relationship of communication and celebrating our schools together in our future community events.

May the force be with you, live long and prosper, nanu-nanu, to infinity... and beyond!

John Lee Evans Update

Budget CutsDear Schools Supporter,

You have heard the constant news about our drastic budget problems.  Unfortunately, we spend too much time arguing over how we should spend the crumbs that we are offered. We really need to focus on those who have the power to provide the funding we need.  The Democrats and Republicans are in a stalemate.  A change in two votes in both houses of the legislature could save K-12 education in California.

We have already cut into the fat in the past few years.  For next year we are cutting into the flesh if we have to follow our tentative budget by increasing class sizes to the maximum, reducing arts, music, GATE, library services, counseling, central office support for schools, magnet programs, and textbooks, as well as complete elimination of important academic programs.  We already have employee concessions and now 1,500 layoffs.  Read More>>

Holmes Campus Development (HCD)
Prop SWe hope you have heard about the Prop S improvements to come for our school and the schools in the district.  If you are new to Holmes, then you may not know of them.  Even during the district's budget crisis, San Diego voters passed the Proposition S bond measure in the fall of 2008.  The measure stipulates that each school in the district is slated to receive about $2M+ of improvements over the next 16 years or so.   Holmes is expected to receive renovation and/or replacement of structures, additional parking, a Joint Use track and field, and more. HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL PLANNING COMMITTEE

PumpkinWE ARE ALREADY LOOKING FOR EAGER PARENTS TO HELP PLAN OUR 2011 HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL!  WE MUST FORM A PLANNING COMMITTEE BEFORE THIS SCHOOL YEAR ENDS!

If you love Halloween, carnivals, sharing good times with fun people or just seeing smiles on all our Holmes kids' faces, then this will be an event that you'd like to take part in.  Putting on this large event takes lots of planning and lots of help.  It truly cannot take place with only one or two volunteers, nor is that fair to the volunteers who are helping.  Volunteers on the planning committee will help with planning games, designing game booths, scheduling volunteers, finding prizes, making signs and banners, selling tickets, finding food vendors, acquiring donations and SO MUCH MORE!  If you can donate a few hours of your time next September and/or October, we'd truly appreciate it!  DAD'S ARE NEEDED TOO!  This event requires a lot of work from our Dads.  Contact Stacy Coulter if you can help make our 2011 Halloween Carnival the best ever.
