Greetings!

We have had it easy this winter - no need to retreat too far into our warm caves . . . the passionate heart illuminates our practice. From Nepal to St. Paul we open to new experience, find a stable presence in Virabadhrasana and embrace being fully alive.
Terese traveled to Nepal last Fall, taking the deep spirit of this place in with every breath and many photographs. She will be sharing her experiences with us in March with a slide show and storytelling. We anticipate the journey she will take us on.
And everyday in the yoga studios here in St. Paul, students and teachers alike tune in and share their stories of yoga practice, philosophy and life. It is an inspiration that we want take to a new level of sharing - we are starting a student column with this newsletter. We encourage students to share with our SPYC community. (Please email written contributions to annavazquez@netzero.com)

SPYC teacher in the News

"No rocking chair for this retiree," an essay by Nancy Giguere, a teacher at the St. Paul Yoga Center, appeared in "The Good Life," a special section of the Star Tribune published on February 1. In the piece, Giguere explores the challenge of creating a purposeful retirement, which for her includes the practice and teaching of yoga.

Paul's Postulations (An on-going series of topics explored using principles of yoga and Ayurveda.)
Granting Immunity - Part II In this segment of Granting Immunity, we will look at factors that impair immune function and take a brief glimpse at the mind's role in healing.
Unpromising Compromises
A weakened immune system can result from having harmful things present and from having needed things missing. Though it is tempting to adopt a one-size-fits-all approach to health, what is helpful for one person may be harmful for another. In fact, the same thing that is helpful for a given individual may also be harmful for that same individual (i.e., the same thing that is a medicine can also act as a poison).
