Elected Officials Budget Summary

In the current atmosphere of budget crisis for local governments, the Cook County Board must be extra diligent in its responsibility to monitor spending and adherence to the annual appropriations bill.  For this reason, Commissioner Goslin introduced a resolution at this week's County Board Meeting to help better monitor spending throughout the current fiscal year.

While the Cook County Comptroller currently tracks all spending thru the Quarterly Appropriation Trial Balance, Commissioner Goslin has requested a streamlined report detailing the appropriation and expenditures of all County elected officials on a mid-year and year-end basis. This streamlined report will assist County Commissioners in their duty to monitor spending by providing a more applicable summary of accounts for their review.

This resolution was approved.

Oak Forest Hospital Transformation
As part of the new independent Cook County Health and Hospitals System's strategic plan, CCHHS announced its intention to transform Oak Forest Hospital into an outpatient care center in 2011.  This transformation would end the inefficient and expensive traditional hospital services provided by Oak Forest for very few patients and allow it to develop more outpatient services to provide preventative care and other health services for the region.

Although the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board initially rejected the plan, a revised transformation, with the inclusion of a 24-hour immediate care center, was approved.  Beginning September 1st, Oak Forest Hospital officially became Oak Forest Health Center.

The Emergency Department has been replaced with a 24-hour Immediate Care Department, which will provide patient care for non-emergency medical matters.  Additionally, staffing will be increased to accommodate additional outpatient services for Infectious Disease, Pain Management and Urology.

The transformation of Oak Forest Hospital is the first step in adapting the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to meet the modern needs of its residents in an efficient manner that provides quality care without being a burden to its taxpayers.
