Business License Deadline Extended to May 1st
| | The application deadline for the County's General Business License has been extended to May 1, 2011. A new Cook County law requires all businesses in unicorporated Cook County to hold a General Business License (GBL). The purpose of the GBL is to ensure businesses operating in unincorporated Cook County are in compliance with public health and safety standards, as well as with all other County ordinances.
Any person or business in unincorporated Cook County must obtain a GBL if:
- They maintain a fixed place of business.
- They own or lease real property for business purposes.
- They regularly maintain a stock of tangible personal property for sale in the ordinary course of business.
Business owners must apply for the GBL, which is good for two years, and pay the $40 license fee online. Late applications will be subject to a late fee of $40, and businesses out of compliance may be subject to a $1000 fine.
Visit the Cook County Department of Revenue's website for more information about the GBL and to complete an online application.
If you are confused about the license or whether the new requirement applies to you, please feel free to e-mail us at commissioner.goslin@cookcountyil.gov or call us at 312-603-4932. |

No Cash Bid Program in Rolling Meadows
| Cook County's No Cash Bid Program is at work helping municipalities with targeted economic development projects. The program is designed to assist municipalities and other taxing bodies with the purchase of tax delinquent properties for reuse as private development or for use by the municipality itself to fulfill needs such as flood prevention.
In 2010, the Cook County Department of Economic Development worked with a variety of Cook County departments and elected offices to review almost 500 property index numbers (PINs) for the No Cash Bid Program. After determining that qualifying delinquent taxes were present, municipalities submitted request packages for those properties in hopes they would eventually secure the tax deeds in order to redevelop and improve their communities. Recent No Cash Bid requests include one for the City of Rolling Meadows, for a strip of vacant land which will be maintained for storm water retention along Salt Creek. It will be used as green space next to a local shopping center.
