Botanic Garden Summer Internship
| Appplications are now available for the John H. Stroger, Jr. internship program at the Chicago Botanic Garden. This summer internship program is designed to introduce early career or college students to professional experiences in the not-for-profit sector--the size and complexity of the Chicago Botanic Garden affords opportunities in a wide variety of fields including education, visitor services and horticulture.
Internships will take place from June 13th through August 5, 2011. Cook County residents age 18-21 can apply for this paid internship through their Cook County Commissioner.

2011 FPD Executive Budget Recommendation
| At the special meeting of the Forest Preserve Board Meeting this afternoon, President Preckwinkle presented the fiscal year 2011 Executive Budget Recommendation for the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.
The total proposed appropriation for FY2010 is $160.2 million. This includes:
- $57.1 million District operating budget
- $14.88 million for Brookfield Zoo
- $9.35 million for the Chicago Botanic Garden
- $4.5 million for the land acquisition fund
In President Preckwinkle's budget address, she outlined five major goals for the District in 2011:
- Increasing land acquisition & maintaining good condition of current holdings and facilities;
- Increasing non-tax revenue, primarily through increased participation in fee-based activities;
- Requiring staff to do more with each dollar of revenue, reflected in a 1.5% cut to the operating budget;
- Increasing the educational benefit for youth at the District, including expanding the Mighty Acorns 4th-6th grade educational program and creating a District-wide Education Team; and
- Implementation of a District-wide training program to cross-train employees in new skills and job functions

FPD Budget Public Hearings
| As chair of the Forest Preserve District Finance Committee, Commissioner Goslin has designated two dates for public hearings, where members of the public are welcome to testify. The dates and locations are as follows:
Wednesday, February 9th at 6:00 P.M. at the Fourth District Courthouse, 1500 S. Maybrook Dr, Maywood, IL Wednesday February 16th at 2:00 P.M. at the County Board Room, 118 N Clark St, Rm 569 If you wish to testify at either of these meetings, you may e-mail your name and the name of any organization you are representing to the Forest Preserve District of Cook County at Tracy.McIntyre@cookcountyil.gov. You can also submit a request via fax to 708-771-1181 or call to register via phone at 708-771-1511.
