This e-newsletter has been on hiatus since August in order to comply with the spirit of the Cook County Ethics Code, which prohibits newsletters and brochures during the election season.  If you are interested in seeing reports from the County and Forest Preserve District Board Meetings in September and October, the unsent newsletters are available in the archive on my website.

I am pleased to have the opportunity to continue as your representative on the Cook County Board for the next four years.  My top priority for the FY2011 budget season is to repeal the last 1/2% of the sales tax increase that has placed an undue burden on the citizens and businesses of the 14th district.

As always, I am happy to hear from concerned citizens on issues that are important to them.  Let's have a conversation!  Feel free to reply to this newsletter, send me an email or give me a call about any Cook County of Forest Preserve District issue.

Sincerely,

Gregg Goslin, Commissioner
FPD License Fees
In order to bring the Forest Preserve District licensing fees charged to utility and other companies in line with the fees charged by other such entities, I sponsored an amendment to increase the application fee and institute a minimum license fee and Youth Education, Land Acquisition and Restoration (YELAR) Program fee.

Currently, the District charges less than its counterparts for granting licenses to use FPD land for utilities and other public service.  Increasing these fees will deter requests for the use of District land that are inconsistent with the FPD Mission, except in cases where there is no feasible alternative.

The YELAR fee will help support youth education programs, including the Mighty Acorn Program, the High School Volunteer Program and the newly created Urban Forester Program.  This fee will also fund land acquisition and restoration activities to help offset the imposition on FPD land.

The application fee increase and minimum license fee will apply only to private companies and will not affect municipal license applications.  The YELAR fee applies to both private and municipal licenses.

This amendment was approved.
