Today's meeting of the Cook County Forest Preserve District Board was held at the new Environmental Learning Center at Camp Sagawau in unincorporated Lemont. Commissioners and attendees had the opportunity to view the interactive displays and tour the expanded Little Red School House.
These tremendous resources offer county residents and visitors a "living Library to observe, explore and learn." Home to Cook County's only rock canyon, this preserve also offers a multimedia area, a large classroom, and a ski lodge, complete with ski rentals and lockers! Deer Grove East Land Acquisition
|
The FPD Board authorized the District to move forward with the acquisition of properties to add to the District's current holdings at the Deer Grove East Preserve. The Deer Grove East Addition would preserve approximately 6 acres.
The 7 contiguous parcels are in Palatine, on Dundee Road approximately a quarter mile east of Quentin Road. The properties are immediately adjacent to the Deer Grove East Preserve and include over 1,000 feet of Salt Creek and both of its banks. These parcels also contain a restorable oak woodland community.

Volunteer Opportunities
|
The 14th District has the second largest holdings of Forest Preserve land and these preserves are treasured and add much to our quality of life. Having this meeting on-site gave us a unique opportunity to not only view the improvements but talk with the professional staff and dedicated volunteers who are the foundation of the daily work. Their energy and genuine commitment is impressive.
Volunteers are needed year-round for all types of different projects. If you are interested in finding a work site for Earth Day or getting more information, please call or e-mail my office. |
