Grant Awarded for Obesity Prevention in Suburban Cook County
|
Last week, the Cook County Department of Public Health was awarded a $16 Million grant for obesity prevention in suburban Cook County. The grant award is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) initiative to support public health efforts in combating chronic diseases and promoting health.
CPPW funds will be used to promote policy changes in school, workplace and community environments to support healthy, active lifestyles and reduce obesity and chronic disease. Communities, schools and organizations interested in advancing these efforts will receive funds through a competitive grant process
The Cook County Health Department seeks to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition and physical activity and will work to provide training to communities so that they can effectively advocate for policy change at the local, county and state levels.
