Residential Parking of Commercial Vehicles and RVs
In July, two amendments to the County Zoning Ordinance were proposed regarding the parking of trucks, commercial vehicles, trailers, recreational vehicles and boats on residential lots in Residence Districts R-1 through R-8.  Together, these amendments allow the parking of commercial and recreational vehicles on residential lots in unincorporated Cook County, provided basic signage and screening standards are met.

A public hearing regarding these amendments was held last week and the amendments were approved at today's County Board Meeting.  Along with three other commissioners, representing over 90% of unincorporated areas in Cook County, I voted against these amendments--even with the County's prior, more restrictive parking regulations my office hears from constituents on a regular basis about parking nuisances in their neighborhood.

The amended ordinances now shift responsibility to township governments as the final authorityon whether large commercial and recreational vehicles will be permitted to park on residential lots.
Business License Ordinance
At today's County Board Meeting, an ordinance was introduced which will require all businesses in unincorporated Cook County to obtain a General Business License from the Department of Revenue.  Initially proposed by the Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart, this license will provide for more effective enforcement of current Cook County laws--including laws regarding prostitution, illegal gambling and illegal possession/distribution of drugs--by way of fines and license suspension or revocation.

The proposed General Business License Ordinance was sent to the Building and Zoning Committee.  A public hearing will be held to allow citizens and municipalities to testify on the matter, and I will keep you updated on when the hearing is scheduled.
