Tour of Deer Grove East
|
As a follow-up to the Deer Grove East Open House hosted by Openlands and the Cook County Forest Preserve, Ecologist Wayne Vanderploeg will be leading a tour of Deer Grove East on Sunday, August 30th from 10am to Noon.
The tour group will meet in the parking lot near the Model Airplane Flying Field, located at the end of the north branch of the main parking lot for Deer Grove East Forest Preserve. If you are interested in attending the tour, please RSVP to Wayne Vanderploeg at wvander@cookcountygov.com or 708-431-7406.
The Deer Grove East Restoration is a large-scale, 5-year project slated to get underway in late summer. This project will eventually allow
Deer Grove East Forest Preserve to retain additional groundwater and reduce
the risk of flooding to nearby communities, provide opportunities for environmental
education programs, and increase public awareness of the importance of natural
areas.
The restoration project is a
joint effort of the Cook County Forest Preserve District and Openlands Land
Preservation (formerly CorLands). The project was chosen by the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers as a wetland mitigation project under the O'Hare Modernization
Mitigation Program and will be funded through a grant from Openlands in
conjunction with the Army Corps.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the project, you can send them to Openlands Project Managers Linda Masters (lmasters@openlands.org) and Joe Roth (jroth@openlands.org) or mail them to 25 E Washington, Suite 1650, Chicago, Il 60602. |
