Smoking Ban at County Hospitals
The Cook County Health and Hospital System announced today that they plan to implement a full smoking ban (even outside) at county health facilities beginning in November.  This measure builds on my recent ordinance designed to double the mandatory smoking distance from county health facility buildings.  Smoking has no place at hospitals and other medical facilities and I am glad to see the Health and Hospitals Board taking this matter seriously:

"We need people to know that when they come to our health care system, the healthy environment begins as soon as they walk on our property, Health and Hospitals spokesman Lucio Guerrero said.
