Forest Preserve District Online Check Register
At today's Forest Preserve Board Meeting, I sponsored a resolution "To Create an Online Monthly Check Register."  This resolution will bring the Forest Preserve District up to speed with similar legislation the Board passed in March on the County side.

The hosting of an online check register will allow citizens to see how their tax dollars are being used.   This just one of the ways I am working to build a more transparent and accountable government for Cook County and the Forest Preserve District.  This item was approved.
Health Reform: White House Conference Call
The White House Offices of Intergovernmental Affairs and Health Reform invited a small group of health policy leaders to a conference call on health reform. As chairman of the National Association of Counties Hospital Task Force, I was pleased to participate and provide the county perspective as we discussed finding a solution to the health care crisis.

President Obama intends to have a health care reform plan presented to Congress by July of this year, and his agenda focuses on three principles: reducing costs to make health care affordable; protecting a patient's choice of doctors, hospitals, and insurance plans; and assuring quality affordable health care for all Americans.

"County governments are integral to our current health system and will be crucial partners in achieving successful reform," his office promised.

Over the past two years, the County Hospital Task Force has been studying the challenges and issues affecting the delivery of quality health services for public hospitals. After extensive meetings with officials, administrators and community members, our group has identified best practices of successful county hospitals, valuable information that I've presented to the Healthcare Reform Group developing specific policy recommendations for the Obama Administration.

Yesterday's conference call was the start of an important process, as the Administration now begins to develop the details of reform. The Health Reform Website includes in-depth information about health reform and an opportunity for individuals to participate in the discussion and help shape the final plan.

Approved disbursement to Tallgrass Restoration, Schaumburg, Illinois, for invoice totaling $1,006.82, payment for Herbicide Invasive Vegetation - North Region (Landscape Restoration Account).
I am leaving this afternoon for the National Association of Counties' Legislative Fly-In, where I will participate in briefings with various White House officials and Congressional visits to discuss county priorities, concerns and initiatives.  I look forward to updating you on our progress.

Sincerely,

Gregg
