Abe Pollin City Title Games

 
D.C.'s city title basketball games were named in honor of legendary Wizards owner Abe Pollin in 2010. The high school games, held annually in March, pit the champions of the DC Intercollegiate Athletic Association vs. the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference for both boys & girls.

A Classic is marching into D.C.! The Washington Convention and Sports Authority unveiled the Nation's Football Classic last month at a private reception at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. District of Columbia Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed joined 150 guests and dignitaries for a program of pageantry and prose emceed by V103's Frank Ski of Atlanta.
  
The Nation's Football Classic kicks off with Howard University and Morehouse College renewing their historic rivalry at RFK Stadium on September 10, 2011. Game time is 3:30 p.m. Tickets range from $15-60 and are on sale now at www.nationsfootballclassic.com.

ShamrockFest returns to the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds March 12 with 45 bands and DJs on 10 stages. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. The non-stop music begins at 1 p.m. and includes performances from popular Irish rock band Dropkick Murphys, Carbon Leaf, Lost in Paris and Scythian on the main stage and DJ Pauly D on the turntables. 'Fest activities also include a carnival-style amusement area, huge tented activity areas, food and craft vendors and an endless supply of beer. Open to leprechauns of all ages...don't miss the nation's hottest St. Patty's day festival.

The Black-and-Red are back in action! D.C. United open the 2011 MLS season against the Columbus Crew at RFK Stadium March 19, marking the official start to the Ben Olsen era. Olsen, currently the youngest head coach in MLS, won eight trophies while playing for United including two MLS Cups (1999 & 2004). Fans who purchase the First Kick Pack to the home opener receive a limited-edition poster autographed by Andy Najar, the 2010 MLS Rookie of the Year. MarathonRun DC: 2011 SunTrust National Marathon

Get ready to run D.C.! The 2011 SunTrust National Marathon returns with nearly 15,000 competitors in the 26.2 mile marathon and the 13.1 mile half marathon on March 26. Both races start and finish at RFK Stadium.

 

Before the race, head over to the DC Armory for the National Health & Fitness Expo presented by the Washington Convention and Sports Authority. Join all registered runners, along with family, friends and local supporters, on March 25 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. for a day-long expo featuring 80+ vendors and sponsors, a speakers series and an interactive kids zone. Expo admission is FREE.

Batter up! The Washington Nationals open the 2011 season at Nats Park with a new look and lots of promise after a busy offseason. The Nats meet the Atlanta Braves in their season opener March 31. Prior to the opener, the Nats host the 2011 NatsFest on March 30, featuring festival activities, an open practice and a chance to meet coaches and players. Gates open at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids under the age of 12.

National Cherry Blossom Festival. The 2011 National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off March 26 with the official opening ceremony and Family Day at the National Building Museum. Family Day festivities include FREE hands-on activities, interactive art demonstrations and indoor and outdoor performances from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. followed by the opening ceremony from 4-5:30 p.m. Festivities continue thru April 10...Get the scoop

 

DC Rollergirls Doubleheader. The DC Rollergirls feature back-2-back action on March 27 at the DC Armory. DC Independent Film Festival. The 12th annual DC Independent Film Festival returns with more than 100 feature, short, animation and documentary films by local, national and international filmmakers. March Madness. NCAA Selection Sunday is March 13 and this year, D.C. gets in on the madness. Georgetown University hosts NCAA second and third round games March 17 and 19 at the Verizon Center. This year's tourney expands to 68 teams...the national championship game is set for April 4 at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

. World renowned DJ and producer Tiesto brings his 'Club Life Tour' to the DC Armory April 9.
