Japan gave 3,020 trees as a gift to the United States in 1912 to celebrate the nations' then-growing friendship. These trees famously line the shores of the Tidal Basin in D.C. The gift was renewed with another 3,800 trees in 1965. This year's festival concludes on April 11.

The Black-and-Red are back! The D.C. United take on the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. in their home opener at RFK Stadium April 3. But first...D.C's own hip-hop star Wale will perform his latest hits in a FREE pre-match concert on the DC Armory Mall starting at 6 p.m. as part of United's season-long "It Takes More" concert series.
And the action doesn't stop there. In the DC Armory, the Spring Bounce Fest Concert & Fashion Walk features the hottest D.C.-area go-go bands as well as a fashion show highlighting the latest trends starting at 6 p.m.

It's time to rock in Nats Town with new head
coach Jim Riggleman and D.C's boys of
summer. President Barack Obama, will throw the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Washington Nationals season opener against the National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies on April 5. Obama's appearance will mark the 100th anniversary of the first time a U.S. President threw an Opening Day first pitch.

D.C.'s hottest rock & roll concert and
chili contest returns. The DC101 Chili Cook-off benefiting the National Kidney Foundation will be held on the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds on May 22 from noon - 9 p.m. The Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains are this year's headliners, and will be joined by national recording artists Cage the Elephant, Switchfoot and Amberlin. Tickets are on sale now and available at the RFK Stadium box office or at www.ticketmaster.com.

Clash of the Champions!
It's a "Clash Of The Champions"
for the golden skate trophy. Reigning champs DC DemonCats take on two-time league champions Scare Force One in the 2010 DC Rollergirls League Championship Bout on April 10 at the DC Armory. This roller derby brawl is sure to be a hit - on and off the track. Tickets are $12 for ages 12 and up, $6 for children ages 6-11 and FREE for kids 5 and under.

Hoops madness hits downtown D.C. as Hoop It Up, the largest 3on3 basketball tournament in the world, comes to the nation's capital April 24-25. This year's tournament, to be held at CityCenter DC for the first time, will feature teams of every skill level. The 2010 Hoop It Up tourney benefits Coaches vs. Cancer, a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
