U Vic says No to Big Box Child
Care
|
Advocates in BC are celebrating the success of their
recent campaign to keep big box child care out of the University of
Victoria. Last week, U Vic's Board of Governors backed away from a
proposal to expand child care at U Vic by contracting with the big
box corporation Kids & Co.

Cross-Canada Tour Update and Resources
|
The Canadian Union of Public Employees' tour promoting publicly-delivered early childhood
care and education that began in Fredericton, New Brunswick on
October 27 has made its way to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and
Labrador, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British
Columbia. During last week's stop at the Vancouver Public
Library child care workers, parents, and activists met up with
a panel of academics, community activists and child care advocates.

Good News for Fight Against
Poverty
|
On November 24, Campaign 2000 and seven of its
provincial partners marked the 20th anniversary of the unanimous
House of Commons' all-party resolution to end child poverty in
Canada with the release of special national and provincial report cards in various cities across the country.
On the same day,
Campaign 2000 announced some good news: the House of Commons passed a
motion committing to a federal plan for the elimination of poverty.

Université
de Victoria dit non aux chaînes de garderies
|
 En Colombie-Britannique, on se réjouit
du succès d'une campagne menée récemment contre l'implantation
d'une chaîne de garderies à l'Université de Victoria. En effet,
la semaine dernière le Bureau des gouverneurs d'U Vic, suivant des
pressions exercés par le milieu des services de garde, a fait marche
arrière et rejeté la proposition de laisser à la chaîne de garderies
commerciales Kids & Co. le soin développer le réseau de garderies
de l'Université.

Tournée pancanadienne du SCFP : un
succès
|
La tournée pancanadienne du Syndicat
canadien de la fonction publique pour promouvoir la prestation publique
de services de garde à l'enfance lancée le 27 octobre à Fredericton
au Nouveau-Brunswick s'est arrêtée depuis en Nouvelle-Écosse, à
Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador, au Manitoba, en Saskatchewan, en Alberta et
en Colombie-Britannique.
Lors de son passage, la semaine dernière,
à la bibliothèque publique de Vancouver, des travailleuses et travailleurs
en garderie, des parents et des militantes ont eu l'occasion de se
réunir et d'échanger avec des universitaires, des intervenantes
communautaires et des représentantes du milieu des services de garde.

Lutte contre la pauvreté :
une bonne nouvelle
|
 Le 24 novembre 2009, Campagne 2000 et
sept de ses partenaires provinciaux ont souligné le 20e
anniversaire de la résolution votée à l'unanimité par la Chambre
des communes d'éliminer la pauvreté infantile au Canada avant l'an
2000. Ils ont lancé dans différentes villes au Canada un rapport national spécial sur la pauvreté des enfants ainsi que des rapports provinciaux.
La même journée, Campagne 2000 annonçait une bonne nouvelle: la Chambre
des communes a adopté une motion visant la mise en œuvre d'un plan
fédéral pour éliminer la pauvreté au pays. Pour en savoir davantage,

de garderies éducatives à l'automne 2010
