                      April 2011

Greetings!

If your from Massachusetts and live anywhere within reach of downtown Boston you know what the month of April means to the locals. The Boston Marathon, run on the third Monday of April, come rain, sleet, snow, and whatever Mother Nature has to throw at us AND what we have all anxiously anticipated while enduring this loooong hard winter.....Play Ball !!!!!! Yes my friends, opening day for the Red Sox is Friday, April 8th, at our beloved Fenway Paahhk (sorry had to do it). In honor of our special "Boys of Summer", anyone who makes a purchase on April 8th and mentions "GO SOX" at time of check out will receive 10% off their purchase. While you are at it we have a few balls/skeins to play with ourselves. New spring yarns are here.

So whether you use a bat or a pair of needles to "Play Ball" both playing fields are ready for some action.

                GO RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, a book that makes a group of grown women giggle like school girls has to be something special. Irving the Ice Box Monster is now the "Yarn Box Monster". You can see him below guarding the new shipment of Bashful Bags and Fibers luxurious mohair. So darn squeeeeezably adorable. (the mohair is too!)

JEWELRY CLASS WITH CATHERINE

Bracelet and Rings

Just in time for Mothers Day, Saturday, April 30 from 1:00 to 3:00 join us for a jewelry class with Catherine. Learn how to crochet, rings, bracelets and necklaces using wire, beads and charms. We will supply the materials but feel free to bring any beads or charms you would like to use and a pair of wire cutters and flat nose plyers would be helpful. (You can find these at Michaels) You do not have to know how to knit or crochet to make these beautiful pieces. Catherine is going to show us how to do some easy stitches that will have everyone going home with a little bling.

Class will be limited to 10 students and the fee of $75.00    includes all materials needed.

MANY THANKS TO COURTNEY AND KATE

March workshop

If you were not one of the lucky ones who were able to attend or stop by to meet our new friends, Courtney Kelly and Kate Osborn from Kelbourne Woolens, The Fibre Company, we are sorry. They will be back. We were beyond honored that the girls chose us to launch their New England book signing and trunk show, showcasing their new book Vintage Modern Knits. If you collectively put together all the seasoned years of everyone here at ITL ,we  are sorry to say it would not have made a dent in the knoweledge of knitting or the industry that these young ladies have. We were even privy to a new design or two that will be appearing in the Fall 2011 Interweave. All of this while juggling a growing company, choosing new colorways for the fall yarns, a book publishing and tour ( they were off to Webs after us, New Haven next weekend and then KnitPurl in Portland and Casty Away in California) podcasts, a graduate degree, husbands, a three year old, volunteering at the local animal shelter, fostering dogs and cats.......we are tired just thinking about it. Oh, to be young again! We have no worries that these young designers will be around for a long, long, time, making their impact in the "Knitting Universe".

Good luck Courtney and Kate. We wish you were closer. Much success on your journey and we are looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks.

ONE BAG AT A TIME

Earth Day is Friday, April 22 and we would like to invite you to the first Earth Day PJ Party from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. We are going to be knitting CocoKnits Re-Bag. You will need to bring at least 20-30 plastic bags (the ones from Target look great!)  and a 24" #11 circular needles.

PJ's are a must! Space is limited and sign up is required. Bring a snack for your fellow "bag ladies".  Just call to sign up or RSVP the next time you are in.

WHAT'S COOKING?

                  baby potatoes

Anyone ready for a cook out? A recipe that is super easy and the perfect side dish that will take you through the summer.  The potatoes become creamy from the combination of the high heat and steam, they are delicious!

Enjoy!

piccante dolce

Grill Roasted Baby Potatoes
serves 2-4 as a side dish

1 lb baby potatoes (I used a mix of white and red) - scrubbed clean
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp fresh cracked black pepper
2 cloves garlic
1 sprig rosemary
5 sprigs thyme
1 Tbsp butter

1. Turn on grill and heat to 400F. These potatoes cook indirectly, for a 3 burner grill turn on the front & the back to medium high.
2.  In a medium bowl toss potatoes in extra virgin olive oil, salt & pepper.
3.  Peel & crush garlic cloves, place in the center of a good sized piece of aluminum foil.  Add the rosemary & thyme sprigs.  Top with the potatoes.  Place little dots of butter all over the potatoes.  Fold and crimp the foil to form a pouch, making sure no air can escape.
4.  Place the foil pouch in the center of the heated grill (or over whichever flame is not on. Roast undisturbed for 40-50 minutes until cooked through.
5.  Remove from grill and let sit for a few minutes before serving with some nice sour cream or creme fraiche.

HEATHER'S HELPFUL HINTS

"Oh no! I put my knitting down in the middle of a row and now I've forgotten which direction I was going; how can I tell?"

The yarn connected to the ball, commonly called the "working yarn", will be hanging from the last stitch you completed. This should be dangling from the right hand needle when you continue the row.

With new spring yarns arriving daily, I hope you are all taking advantage ofkeeping "in the loop" by following us on FaceBook (if you have one), our Ravelry Group and keeping updated through our Blog (which is easy to get to through our website!)  Cheryl has become an "epic blogger" and publishes informative and creative communications almost daily.  So, don't wait until May 1st, to be up to date on what's happening at In the Loop!

We hope everyone enjoys all that April has to offer and we look forward to staying out of left field and hitting another one "Out of the Park" next month.

P.S. Don't forget to check out the Great Rhody Yarn Crawl, April 15,16,and 17th and if you have time, a great new yarn and fabric shop just opened last month in Jamaica Plain. Good luck JP Knit and Stitch.

Sincerely,

In The Loop
