February, the month of love. Love for family, friends, significant others and for us, here at In The Loop, knitting. It is with great love and appreciation for you that we do our best to entertain and inform you each month in our newsletter. We knit to our hearts content (although I think Ellen's heart is more content than most of us) so we have new samples ready to peak your interest and our talented staff is always busy changing up the shop displays and working on new designs. We don't have chocolates, jewels or flowers to offer but our hearts are busting out as we "Cowl Up" for the month of February. Are you ready for the "Necks Best Thing"? |

HEATHERS' HELPFUL HINTS | | How do I avoid messy looking joins when knitting in the round?
Example on left is desirable, right is sloppy and avoidable. Read on.
When joining stitches in the round it can be difficult to create a seamless join on circular needles and DPNs. Here are two tricks to solve the problem:
Cast on one extra stitch. When you start the first row, slide the last cast on stitch onto the left hand needle. Then knit two stitiches together, avoiding the loop that is caused by the join.
Before placing your stitch marker and knitting the first stitch, swap the first stitches on the left and right needles as follows:
1. Slip the first stitch on the right needle to the left needle. 2. Slip the second stitch on the left needle up and over the first stitch and onto the right needle. 3. Place a stitch marker on the right needle to indicate the beginning of a new round. 4. Knit the first stitch on the left needle. 5. Continue until all stitches have been knit and you're back to the stitch marker. This completes one round. I add one (1) extra stitch and when I join together in the round I knit the last stitch together with the first stitch making a tighter join with no additional stitch." Pat, 4/27/01
"When casting onto DPNs, I cast on an extra stitch. When I go to start my first row, I slide the last cast on stitch onto the left hand needle. I then knit two stitches together, thereby a voiding the loop that is caused by the join." Laura
