Did you know you can...?
Create a "buffer" polygon layer based on a certain distance from a given point? Choose Customize in the Tool menu and type "Buffer Wizard" in the Command search. Just drop the tool in a toolbar, select the feature to buffer, and you're ready to start the wizard! We find the Buffer Wizard handy when trying to determine our search tolerance before using the Set Segment ID & Side tool. Below is an example of creating three rings in increments of 30 feet from a preselected point.

For more information on how to use Buffers, see ArcGIS Desktop Help.

What's a Picture Worth?
|
It's priceless! Have you discovered the FREE* Microsoft Bing Maps (previously known as Virtual Earth) for ArcGIS 9.3.1? ESRI has made it easy to download and use Bing Maps within RouteSmart for ArcGIS. Now you can use satellite imagery in your RouteSmart workspaces. Bing Maps add a great new
visualization dimension to your routing projects. Benefits of using Bing
Maps include the ability to precisely rectify service location data placement
as well as identify real-world features that may be valuable for refining
routing criteria.
Set up your ESRI extension licensing, save the layer files from the internet, and presto! The layers can be added to your workspace.
-
If you have a "Single Use" ESRI license: you can request a Virtual Earth registration number through the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator's "Register Single Use and Extentions Wizard."
- If you have a "Concurrent Use" ESRI license: you can go to ESRI's website and request a new license file with the added exention. The new file will be sent to you through email and can replace your current file.
The Bing Map imagery layers are available online at the ArcGIS Resource Center.
For more detailed instructions, contact RouteSmart's Technical Support Staff at 800.977.7284, option 2, or email us.
Or contact ESRI's Technical Support directly at 800.377.4575 (US).
* Free with active ESRI maintenance, as part of the standard map services, for use with ArcGIS 9.3.1.

NAVTEQ Map Reporter Webinar
|
Have you noticed an area in your NAVTEQ maps that needs to be updated? Now there's an easier way to channel this feedback directly to NAVTEQ. The NAVTEQ Map Reporter tool allows any clients who are NAVTEQ map update subscribers to submit a map report (or database updated request) via a map-based interface. RouteSmart clients now have access to this feature right from our website under the Technical Support tab on the Online Support Center page.
To demonstrate how you can take advantage of Map Reporter to improve the quality and accuracy of your maps, we will be hosting a free webinar in the month of February. Kris Cummings, TCS Engineer, NAVTEQ Customer Program Management will review Map Reporter functionality on Wednesday, February 3rd. Kris will be going over the basics of how to use the Map Reporter application as well as specific benefits that the application provides.

Is RouteSmart Compatible with...?
|
One of the most common questions our technical support staff hears is whether RouteSmart for ArcGIS is compatible with a specific operating system or ArcGIS version or service pack. Did you know there's an easy and always-accessible way to get the answer to this question?
With every new release, we update our Product Compatibility Chart, which is available on our web site. The chart shows the specific operating systems and software versions supported for each release of RouteSmart for ArcGIS and RouteSmart WebAccess. For instance, our 2009.0.2 release is compatible with both ArcGIS 9.3 SP 1 and 9.3.1, but not 9.3.1 SP 1.
You can check the chart anytime you have a question about compatibility, and if you still need more information our technical support representatives are ready to help!
