RouteSmart WebAccess Version 4.0 Now Available
|
RouteSmart Technologies is pleased to announce the availability of RouteSmart WebAccess 4.0. The release is available to all clients who currently have licensed RouteSmart WebAccess.
RouteSmart WebAccess 4.0 now contains a new Route Viewer. The WebAccess Route Viewer allows you to see one or more of your routes on the map, categorized by route ID. You can see routes individually, or you can make a group of routes visible. The map also displays streets and facilities in your workspace, making it easy to view areas where routes overlap, locations that may be out of place (either geocoded incorrectly or on the wrong route), and to see detailed information for individual service locations.
Important Note: Clients wishing to upgrade to RouteSmart WebAccess 4.0 should schedule an upgrade session with RouteSmart client services. After the upgrade session has been scheduled, the programs will be sent via WebCargo. Please contact RouteSmart technical support at 800-977-7284, option 2, or via email at service@routesmart.com, for scheduling and installation or upgrade instructions. |

Got Alleys?
|
Several RouteSmart clients have expressed frustration at one point or another about routing alley service. If you sweep, plow, collect garbage, read meters, or deliver newspapers or mail using alleys, this issue affects you. As you know, if the street (or in this case, alley) segments exist in the street layer, we can use them successfully to route. The challenge, however, is that often the alley segments are not available in commercial street data, and municipalities will sometimes model the alleys as a separate layer entirely. So if you have alley service, and you have alley data in another layer, how do you merge these layers together into one for routing? Our partner ESEA ( http://www.esea.com) now offers MapMerger Detective, a powerful yet easy-to-use application that allows you to merge (or conflate) two layers into a single layer. The MapMerger product (which embeds directly into ArcGIS) can identify geographic or attribute differences, step through the differences individually or in batch, and save decisions you make to be applied automatically the next time you update your maps.
Alleys (blue) added to street layer (yellow) for routing.
MapMerger Detective can also be used to incorporate edits you make in one version of your map data into a newer version. When commercial map data vendors supply map updates, any edits you have made to the previous version can be lost. With MapMerger Detective, you can easily check each conflict between the existing and new data sets and determine how each conflict should be resolved. Decisions can be saved and reapplied to the next map update, saving you valuable time and resources.
"We've made numerous manual changes to the map that we get from NAVTEQ," says Amy Ma, Routing Specialist for Recology (formerly Norcal Waste Systems), a private solid waste hauler in San Francisco. "MapMerger has given us the peace of mind that those changes will not be lost. It's a very easy product to learn, and it's a pleasure to work with the ESEA team."
For more information or to see how MapMerger Detective can help you, please contact ESEA via the Web (http://www.esea.com) or email (esea@esea.com).
