RouteSmart for ArcGIS 2009 Now Available
|
We are pleased to announce the general availability of our latest release, RouteSmart for ArcGIS 2009. Clients wishing to obtain this update should contact us at service@routesmart.com. In addition to compatibility with ArcGIS version 9.3, service pack 1, this release contains several new features and enhancements such as: Screen from the RouteSmart for ArcGIS Export Wizard.
- Export Wizard - allows you to export data from any layer in RouteSmart for ArcGIS into any supported format. Just as with the Import Wizard, you can save Export Wizard templates to make the export process fast and easy.
- Extended Route Summary Report - includes more information, such as starting and ending facility names, sequenced and unsequenced stops, total number of stops, number of trips, start and end times, travel time, service time, idle time, extra time, time at an intermediate facility, total time, and total distance.
- Street Notes - allows you to
add notes to a blockface (each side of a street segment) that will
appear on the Home Delivery Route Book. These notes typically provide
information pertinent to a route and could contain information like
gate codes for gated communities, or other information that a driver
may need along a route.
- Maximum Service Separation - allows you to dictate the maximum amount of time allowed on a route between
servicing
opposite sides of a street (when you want to ensure that you service
both sides of a street within, for example, two hours). - Improved Set Segment ID and Side - ensures that service locations with coordinates are matched to the correct street (not just the closest) by including the ability to parse address data into separate fields and compare attributes such as street name and type.
- Numerous solver and reporting enhancements....
Note: if you plan to upgrade to RouteSmart for ArcGIS 2009 and you are currently using a version prior to 9.2.5, your RouteSmart license key must be updated. Contact us at service@routesmart.com to plan for your update. And remember to attend our complimentary "What's New" webinars (scheduled on Wednesday, June 3, and Wednesday, July 1) to learn about the latest and greatest features! Just email us at routinguniversity@routesmart.com to register.

Improving Efficiency and Service with eBooks
|
If you're looking for a way to go green, save time, and improve carrier accuracy and efficiency, try "printing" your route books on an eBook device. In response to client demand, RouteSmart and eBook Technologies, Inc. (ETI), have recently developed an integrated solution that puts RouteSmart-optimized route solutions on eBook's intelligent, rugged display units.
With the new eBook integration, RouteSmart seamlessly provides sequenced daily routes and activity report information (adds, deletes, complaints, etc.) to carrier eBooks in the field. Carriers connect the eBook device via USB at the distribution center or at home and download their electronic route book in about a minute. The touchscreen device contains RouteSmart's turn-by-turn directions, product and draw information, and delivery instructions for home-delivery operations.
John Sniezek, Newspaper and Postal Product Manager for RouteSmart Technologies, worked closely with ETI to develop the eBook integration. "eBooks are ideal for use in the newspaper industry," Sniezek says. "eBook devices eliminate costs associated with printing paper route books and significantly reduce carrier preparation time in the morning. Several RouteSmart clients have begun distributing eBooks to their independent contractors or carriers, and the response to the implementation has been overwhelmingly positive."
Ken McCloud, Director of Circulation Distribution for The News-Press in Fort Myers, FL, says that they are "very pleased with the results" they have seen from the eBook integration thus far. The News-Press has planned a phased rollout of the technology, and although only about 25% of his carriers have received eBook devices, they have already seen "solid improvement in customer service and a decrease in customer complaints." He expects this trend to continue as the eBooks rollout expands to his entire carrier force. Ken also sees the potential for an even more efficient delivery system that would allow him to build larger, more effective routes as a result of RouteSmart's eBook integration.
