ART

Ms. Kristi will be doing a limited student art show at the concert this year. Art will be displayed but not available for sale. You will, however, have the opportunity to paint and glaze a ceramic tile to be installed at Mrs. B's haven. A group of dedicated teachers and parent volunteers are working hard to get the space completed. For a minimum donation of $ 5.00 you can get creative and leave your legacy on the wall in memory of Mrs. B, one of our beloved teachers who passed away a few years ago.

Hilo Hattie will be on site selling T-shirts and decals. The decals feature some of our students' artwork, and it will also be "mocked up" on bags, hats, aprons, towels etc. These items will be available for sale via the website in the near future. Stop by the Hilo Hattie table and check it out!  A portion of the proceeds comes directly back to our school.

                                                 School Wide Renovation

Our school will be undergoing renovation this summer. We are very fortunate that the bulk of the work will be done while students are off campus. The campus is divided in to 5 cycles and 4 should be completed before the end of July. The first cycle is the library/computer lab and work begins on Friday, 5/25. The 5th cycle will be in process during the first month of school. We are working hard on the scheduling piece and doing our best to keep the construction disruptions to a minimum. The DOE has funded this project and will manage and inspect all of the work that is performed by the general contractor and all of the subcontractors.

The work is mainly cosmetic and includes:

New windows

New floor coverings - laminate with area rugs in classrooms/carpet in library

New energy efficient lighting

Exterior painting

Interior painting

Replacement of damaged doors/sinks/countertops

Re keying of all classroom doors and replacement of locks if necessary

Deep clean/sanitizing of all restrooms

Professional abatement of any potentially hazardous materials

Espie Chapman, a parent volunteer has already enlisted many of you to assist our teachers/staff with packing, which we truly appreciate! We will also be hosting a packing/purging party on Saturday, 5/19 from 8:00 - 5:00 PM. Please contact Espie Chapman if you can assist on that day, or any other time. Remember, many hands make light work!

Our contractor will be storing and using heavy equipment on campus all summer. We ask that you refrain from using the playground/fields in order to ensure the personal safety of your children. Please contact Mr. Noh or Mrs. Pederson if you have questions about the renovation.

If you are available to help set up please see Mrs. Villegas after school on Thursday May 3rd at 2:15.  Bring plant sheers if you have them. Assistance will also be needed after the performance to tear down the stage and backdrop.

Our 3rd grade classes will be holding a yard sale on Saturday, 5/5 from 8:00 - 2:00.                                       "I Love Kailua" Artist

Please congratulate Hudson Lockette, one of our 6th grade students when you see him. Hudson's won the "I Love Kailua" art contest and his design was featured on the T-shirts, buttons, and all promotional material for the I Love Kailua event. This year marked the first time that student artwork was accepted in the contest. Hudson was called on stage during the celebration and was honored for his artistic abilities and received a free T-shirt! Ms. Kristi was acknowledged  as his art teacher of 7 years, and for submitting the artwork from all of our very talented 3rd and 6th grade students.

                                            Lost and Found

Our lost and found cabinet in the cafeteria is overflowing with "stuff". Please stop by during the snack sale on Friday, 4/27 to look for and retrieve any lost items. We will be donating any leftover items to the 3rd grade yard sale on 5/5.
