Lanikai School Board Seeks

New Community Member

The Board of Directors of Lanikai Elementary Charter School is accepting nominations for the position of community-at-large representative on the Board. The three-year position will begin in August, 2011.  The current Board members will appoint the community member from among those nominated.

The primary qualification is a willingness to commit several hours a month to governing Lanikai School.  In addition to monthly meetings, Board members confer with the school director and work on various committees. The Board is responsible for setting and overseeing the school budget , formulating educational policy, and contract negotiations.

Any prospective nominee should visit the school website at lanikaielementary.com and become familiar with Board bylaws, minutes, policies, etc., as well as current school news.

The Board is particularly interested in persons who have experience or expertise in budgeting, finance, accounting, business and/or administration. Persons with experience in educational administration and policy-making will also be strongly considered.

While community board members are often from the Kailua area or nearby, there are no geographic restrictions.  A community member may not qualify for representation on the board as a member of one of the other constituent groups: parents, teachers, or support staff.  The community member may not be an immediate family relative of another Board member.

Candidates may be self-nominated or nominated by any member of the Lanikai School community-at-large. Nominations should include a brief statement of the candidate's qualifications and interest in serving. Persons nominating someone other than themselves must determine that nominee's willingness to serve.

Submit nominations in electronic format to Callie Stevens, school office manager, at  callie_stevens@notes.k12.hi.us by FRIDAY, JULY  15, 2011. Nominees will subsequently be contacted by the Board.
