Your feedback is requested

Dear Parents and Guardians,

At Lanikai Public Charter School we work hard to make sure we meet the needs of all of our students. We are asking for your assistance in providing us feedback.
From December 8th through the 10th we have the opportunity to work with consultants who will help us take a good look at our school and assist us in building upon our strengths and addressing our challenges. We look forward to working with School Synergy again in a school review process looking deeply at three areas:

1) Instruction, 2) Assessment, and 3) Student Connectedness and Engagement

Please help us by filling out, and sending back the  survey that was mailed home two weeks ago. Tell us what you think!

In addition, if you would like to talk more about some of these questions, I invite you to a Parent and Community Meeting on:

Wednesday, December 8th at 7:00 PM (light refreshments at 6:30 PM) in the Library.
or
Thursday, December 9th at 8:00 AM (coffee and rolls at 7:30 AM) in the Library.

If you and your children expect to be here for light refreshments at 6:30 on 12/8/10, please  RSVP to the front office no later than 12/6 so childcare can be arranged.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Ann Pederson
Interim Administrator

Holiday Concert: December in Our Town

6:00 PM

  Wednesday , 12/15/10

You have probably heard bits and pieces of the songs your children are practicing for the Holiday Concert.  We all join Music Teacher June Wigglesworth in inviting you to come on Wednesday evening, December 15 at 6:00 PM when the students will put all the pieces together. You'll hear them belting out songs representing the various December and New Year holidays celebrated in American communities. Some of the songs are selected from the Scott Foresman music curriculum and some from the musical "December in our Town.".

Please have your children here by 5:30 PM.

Bring your favorite holiday treat to share. Drop it off in the cafe before the concert. Goodies will be served after the show and beverages will be provided by our PTSA.

Hot Lunch payment reminder
December Hot lunch payments are due today, December 1. Please stop by the office to make your payment.
Update from our Counselor

Dear Parents,

Wow! Is it really only three weeks until winter break? The kids are still moving ahead quickly with learning, as I get to peek into the classrooms from time to time. I don't think they are counting down the days quite yet until their favorite holiday, but I'm sure you will be hearing about it soon! How many more days until...Christmas? Hanukkah? Kwanza?

I've been thinking about some of the things that Kathy Bentley, of Kathy's Parenting Solutions, shared with us this fall at the parenting workshops.  One that I thought would be useful is the subject of temperament. Kathy pointed out that if you look at your child's temperament in terms of the Winnie the Pooh characters, you might be able to understand them a little better. And don't forget to see which character/temperament you are, and if they are compatible or not!

Winnie the Pooh         Flexible, adaptable, does well with change.

Tigger                         Bouncy, active, movers and shakers!

Piglet                          Cautious, quiet, thoughtful.

Eyore                          Doom and gloom.

Rabbit                         All grown up!

Our Character Value for the month of November was COMPASSION. We talked about how giving to others during Thanksgiving shows compassion, ie collecting food for the Canned Food Drive, or volunteering to serve dinner at the Salvation Army. Our Character Value for December is FAITH. It can be like lighting a candle in the darkness.Talk to your children about what faith means to them, and what it means to you and your family.

 Have a great winter break!
