Post WASC Celebration Update

Thank you to all parents and students that participated in our WASC accreditation celebration on August 28th. We were pleased that Mother Nature held off on the rain until 8:15 PM! Our food venders have graciously donated a share of their profits back to us, which is very much appreciated.
Congratulations to the family of Alyssa Rich who won the grand prize, which was two Roundtrip tickets for inter island travel donated by Hawaiian Air! Due to the rain at the end of the evening, the drawing was held at morning assembly the following Monday.

NEW PTSA BOARD

A new PTSA board was voted in last week. Please stay tuned for more information on all of the great activities that they are planning. If you have not already done so, join the PTSA and help make this a great year at Lanikai Elementary. Membership forms are available in the office. A family membership is $20.00 for the year.

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to another great year for your children at Lanikai Elementary. Now that it is September, I feel that summer is "officially" over, and the dust has settled since the start of the new school year.
We have been having a good time with our Parenting Workshops with Kathy Bentley. Ask any parent who has attended and they will tell you that Kathy is smart, funny, down to earth, and full of good, useful parenting information. There is one more session on September 16th from 4:30 to 5:30 PM in the Library. These workshops are free, with a nominal donation for the provided childcare.
Before I forget! Here are two good websites to explore. The first one is about bullying, and we will be showing the videos in some of the classes this year. The second one has good articles on pretty much anything you can think of that might concern you and your children and family. I will pull out an article from time to time to share with you, especially if it targets something relevant that a parent might have brought to my attention.

This year we are introducing Character Education in the classroom. This will be taught in conjunction with our anti-bullying curriculum. Our Character Value for the month of September is RESPECT! Talk to your children about what it means to them, and what it means to you and your family.
