Art Auction - Friday, April 30th
|
The Lanikai Elementary art department is holding our annual student gallery art show April 30th from 8am to 3pm as part of our May Day celebration. Artwork will stay on display through the next week during the same hours.
For the first time ever-all displayed student art pieces will be offered for sale as prints. We will also be offering arts and prints from local professional artists for auction. All proceeds from the print sales and auction pieces will directly benefit the Art Department. In a time when other schools are cutting art programs and furloughing on Fridays we at Lanikai are proud to have maintained a full week schedule and a full time art program for all of our students.

May Day Volunteers and foliage donations requested
|
Our annual May Day performance is quickly approaching! This year it
will be held on Friday morning 4/30. Every year we rely heavily on
parent donations of foliage: areca palm fronds, monstera, and red or
green ti leaves (whole stalk if you can), red or torch gingers and
haleconia. Foliage can be dropped off behind the learning center
Thursday morning, 4/29. We are putting together a committee to set up
and decorate the stage on Thursday after school, and to help clean up
after the performance. We welcome anyone and everyone who wants to
help. WE NEED YOU TO HELP MAKE THE DAY SUCCESSFUL FOR THE KEIKI! To date we have 2 volunteers and will need many more! Mrs.
Villegas has volunteered to head up this committee to assist our Kumu
Lonoai'a with the May Day preparations. Email her at villegasfour@yahoo.com if you can help with foliage or with your time. MAHALO!

Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle Award
|
Our first and sixth grade class vegetable/herb garden has been awarded Runner Up in the "School Beautification Contest" sponsored by Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle. The vegetable and herb garden that has been created and tended to by first and sixth grades won high praise from the judges. They were impressed with the multi grade approach and incorporating science experiments and composting in to the project.
The group said that they are happy to have played a part in encouraging our school to help make Kailua "clean, green and beautiful".
The $250 award will be presented center stage at ~ 11:00 on Saturday, 4/24 at the "I love Kailua Town Party". Please attend and make some noise in the crowd as our name is called!

Garden in a bucket
|
This
year the Kindergarteners will get dirty to save the environment.
Pualani Ramos has extended her non-profit project to educate our youth
to reduce, reuse, and recycle to develop awareness and skills that will
help our planet Earth. On April 16 and 23, the Kindergarten classes
will give back to their community by using recycled items to beautify
their school/homes by creating a garden in a bucket. The students
learning will then be continued throughout the next grade levels. In
first grade they will use their previous knowledge as well as new
learning to develop a large garden. There are many more adventures down
the road for Lanikai students that will grow from a little seed in
Kindergarten to a full-blooming flower as they leave 6th grade.
The planting will take place during the time/date listed below:
Friday April 23 from 1pm-2pm
The
kindergarten classes and teachers welcome any and all parent and
community volunteers to join our students during this event.
