Counselor's Corner
| Dear Parents,
To quote some of the staff, "I don't know where October went!" We have just finished up our first quarter back at school, and it has been a whirlwind. I have been busy getting to know all the teachers and staff, the students and schedules, and feel like I am now settling in to a routine of days flying by and never enough hours in the day. Sound familiar?
I have seen many of your children by now out on the playground, in the classroom, a nd in small Lunch Bunch groups or in a Circle of Friends. I am glad that the children here have come to me to help them solve problems and express their feelings. That is why I am here, and I'm happy to be that person for your child!
I'm finding that the students here are very happy and upbeat, and genuinely seem to care about school, their teachers, and each other. Parents are a child's first teacher, and you have all done a great job!
Our Principal Mr. Sauceda and I will be coming into the classrooms soon to teach some lessons on School Safety. This will include how we can create a bully-free school, and learning how to make good choices. This should be a fun experience and I hope the students will take advantage of the time with Mr. Sauceda and me to voice their thoughts and opinions on these topics.
The school year seems to have a rhythm to it, and I always feel that Halloween leads into Thanksgiving, which leads, too quickly, into the winter break and New Years holidays. Whew! So here we go...there goes Halloween, get that turkey out, and let's hang on for a great ride! Sincerely,
Julie Halpern Lanikai Elementary School Counselor
P.S. As I said before, a child may be referred to see me by a teacher, a parent or guardian, or by the children themselves. Please feel free to call me at 266-7844 X255, or email me at Julie_Halpern/LANIKAI/HIDOE@notes.k12.hi.us.

PTSA NEWS
|
Fun Fair and Haunted House was a huge success this year! Thank you to all that donated time, talent and dollars to make this a fun event for our families and for the community. The weather was great and the turnout was excellent.
We would especially like to thank (MCAS) Marine Corp Air Station Marines and Sailors who once again did an outstanding job with constructing, manning, and tearing down the haunted house. We could not do this event without the many volunteer hours donated by our Marines and Sailors. They take the time out of their busy lives to make our keiki's Halloween memorable though many of them do not have children of their own.
Our next PTSA meeting is Thursday, 11/12 at 7:00 PM. We will host a "Shop Local" event after this meeting. If you have products that you would like to sell at this event please contact Tonya Taylor at tmtartl@msn.com.
Come and do some holiday shopping, have a light dessert and attend a short meeting.
There will be NO December PTSA meeting.

Unique After School Drama Program to be offered at Lanikai
Honolulu Theatre for Youth brings drama to Lanikai Charter School! Famous for plays presented to children of Hawaii, HTY now offers children of Lanikai Charter School a program to create some drama of their own. Over the Winter/Spring semester, two HTY professional Teaching Artists will conduct a twice-weekly drama class in which children will explore drama, learn about acting, create original stories and characters and develop a small performance they will present at the end of the semester. Designed especially with Lanikai's children in mind, this will be a dramatic experience they will enjoy, be enriched by and not soon forget. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
