Come out and say hello at these upcoming events!

Fun, fellowship, and maybe even some useful information are part of the mix at these upcoming events where I'll be presenting my "Bird Hunting Boot Camp."

June 24-26 in Albany, Oregon, I'll be at the first annual Gun Dog Expo at the Linn County Fairgrounds. In addition to my seminar, I'll have an exhibit with some fun activities and the chance to win goodies including my new Real Bird Bumper. Meet Buddy, too.

July 23 I'm at the Filson flagship store in Seattle. This is a reprise of last year's standing-room-only presentation, so make your reservations early. I'll have more details soon, so watch for an email.

My seminars are for any level of expertise, so come on out whether you're a seasoned pro or a rank beginner, dog owner or just a bird hunter. There's something for everyone and you will become a better hunter and dog owner ... guaranteed!

You can always find out what's happening in the world of seminars and personal appearances at this page on my blog.

The "HOT SHOT" video quiz kills two chukars with one shot! A 90-second mini-show of great dog work (hey, no comments on my shooting) plus a chance to win stuff!

New video just uploaded and ready for you to test your knowledge! Visit the page on my blog, and good luck!

A perfect day? You decide.

Progress on Manny's force-fetch training under blue skies, with a big mug of espresso-strength coffee on the fence post. This is gonna be good, I thought. What a weekend. And, by guacamole-and-merlot time, it was.

In fact, it only got better as the clouds built to a muddled gray mass, heavy with rain. Here's how:

The new Fausti DEA SL 20 ga. had languished unshot in the safe since arrival, mocking my office work. The imagined laughter finally shamed me into a couple calls, a frantic search for ammo and batteries for my electronic earplugs. Central Oregon Sporting Clays was the destination, Spence Tabor's labor of love that has exceeded shooters' expectations in all respects. Read more here.

Speaking of video fix ...

Watch and learn, everything from what a retrieve looks like from Buddy's perspective (yep, he's wearing a camera), to beautiful places we've hunted.

Tips from pro guides, some unusual dog breeds and photos of kids and dogs ... how can you lose? It's all right here, where you can watch Wingshooting USA whenever you want!
Entire episodes are available right here.

Counting the days yet?

One frazzled, impatient friend recently pointed that many of us can go hunting in just four months ... 120 days! The good news is, you can catch new episodes of Wingshooting USA even sooner!

The season starts on television the week of September 26, on VERSUS/NBC Sports and these other fine networks: Legacy TV, TUFF-TV and AMG-TV. Watch for more news, or check in here regularly.

Greetings!

Here's hoping you're over the incredible flooding, rain, snow or fires that seem to have plagued our spring. If you experienced loss, you have my sympathy.

With the sun now reliably shining most days, we are in production mode for next fall's TV shows. I'm shooting the final "Buddy & Me" segments in a couple weeks and then we'll be done with field work. Writing, editing and preparing for the first annual "TruckVault Cares" public service campaign are in high gear.

For you, warmer weather may mean school's out and kids need attention. Encourage them to do something outdoors: fish, hike, ride a bike, or help you with training your dog! "Nature deficit disorder" is more than a catchy phrase. It's a real problem and you have the solution, right there in your kennel.

Just a reminder: if you're not following my blog, you're missing out on great videos, exclusive interviews (most recently a research scientist dispels myths about how/when/what to feed your dog), training tips, places to go, and FREE gear. Go here to subscribe, it's free too!

See you in the uplands,

     Scott

Are you hearing "Voices?"

What/when/how to feed your dog? We all think we "know" the right way, but do we really? I recently interviewed a Purina research scientist and boy did he open my eyes. Brian Zanghi's interview is the

most recent on my blog page "In the Author's Voice," audio interviews with folks who have something important to say.

Once you're educated, be entertained by the Motor City Madman himself, Ted Nugent. I was working late when he called, but what's a guy gonna do, let the machine pick up?

If you're the literary sort, you'll enjoy Guy de la Valdene's discussion of the motivation behind his new book "Fragrance of Grass." Guy says it will be his last book on hunting and dogs, so find out why in my exclusive interview. Listen to them all, here.

Welcome to the 21st Century and "Sporting Shot"

If you love Shooting Sportsman magazine, you'll love their free e-zine, Sporting Shot. Great photography, fine writing, and the same luxurious look and "feel" of the magazine ... on your computer!

sporting shot logoYou can "turn" pages just like a magazine, but there are also electronic tricks to jump right to the article you want to read, click on ads for products and services you want to learn more about (many with videos), and send an email immediately to editors. There's even a mobile app for the truly plugged-in sportsman.

If you love fine guns, great dogs, insider information, and expert advice you won't get elsewhere, you should give this new technology a try. If you can send an email, you can read Sporting Shot ... and it's a lot more fun!

So if you can't get enough of Shooting Sportsman, "bookmark" Sporting Shot and fill the lull. I did.

TruckVault Cares ... about conservation, canines & kids ... and so do you!

Raising funds - and awareness - of the great work six different groups do. That's the goal of our public service initiative starting this fall on Wingshooting USA. You'll soon be hearing more about our exciting

TV Cares puppies

Even pups need help sometimes!

on-air, online, multimedia effort to support "the good guys" in our world, via TV, print, and online promotion. Until then, here is one of the groups that will benefit:

Gun Dog Rescue Groups don't have a "national" organization, but they are vocal and active confederation of regional, breed, and local groups. They are also doing incredible work for our hunting companions, whether lost, abandoned or somehow unable to stay in their current homes. Rescue clubs foster, socialize, and place hunting dogs in new "forever homes."

One such group is California German Shorthair Rescue. Learn more about them here, then stay tuned to Wingshooting USA for more information on "TruckVault Cares."
