Bill Todd Receives 2010 Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Progress and Service
Georgia Tech's Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts has named Bill Todd, president and CEO of the Georgia Cancer Coalition, as the 2010 recipient of the Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Progress and Service. Todd accepted the award during the College's annual Founder' s Day event at The Biltmore.
A Georgia Tech alumnus, Todd has devoted 38 years to healthcare and technology management in Atlanta and currently leads the GCC in efforts to make the state a national leader in cancer care and reduce cancer deaths among Georgians. Ivan Allen College Interim Dean Kenneth Knoespel highlighted Todd's embodiment of the values and principles of former Atlanta Mayor Ivan Allen Jr.
"Bill Todd is an extraordinary humanitarian and community leader. His accomplishments and steadfast commitment embody Mayor Allen's advocacy and compassion. It is our privilege to recognize his contributions to our community, state and the world," said Knoespel.
Todd is the tenth leader to receive the Ivan Allen Jr. Award for Progress and Service which recognizes individuals associated with Georgia who have contributed to the progress and service of society through fields relevant to the curriculum of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. Past honorees include former President Jimmy Carter, former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn, Ted Turner, and CARE President an CEO Helene Gayle. |
Angie Patterson's Focus
Is On Survivorship
 Angie Patterson, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, was invited to be a Steering Committee member of the LIVESTRONG Survivorship Centers for Excellence Network (LSSCOE) Network.
Comprised of eight NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers and their affiliates, the LSSCOE Network's mission is to accelerate the pace of progress in addressing the needs of the growing survivor community.She will be attending the April Steering Committee meeting in Austin, Texas. Locally, she has been asked to serve on the SurvivorLink Advisory Board. SurvivorLink is a web-based system designed to improve provider and patient/family awareness and knowledge about survivor health issues, and to imrpove patient and provider access to comprehensive information on specific treatment-based screening recommendations. Amy Moore Gets GSU Appointment
Amy Moore, PhD, the GCC's Manager of Research Programs, has been appointed an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Georgia State University. As an active member of the department, she will participate in faculty meetings, seminars, and student conferences and may serve as a guest lecturer. Dr. Moore earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and her PhD in microbiology and immunology from Wake Forest Universty School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was a Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan Medical School and at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. |

Alan Wills To Graduate from State of Georgia Leadership Program
 GCC Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Alan Wills is participating in the inaugural class of the Executive Leadership Development Program sponsored by the Governor's Office to build leadership excellence.GCC was one of 30 agencies represented in the State Personnel Administration program designed in conjuntion with the Georgia Leadership Institute of the Terry Executive Education Center at University of Georgia.
Each participant was required to design and implement a "challenge project" addressing one of the top issues facing the organization. In this year-long program, he has focused on the challenge of increasing the number of Georgians that receive community-based cancer services by developing a uniform set of metrics and outcomes to measure results across the state and stardardizing and implementing best practices. | |
