Southeast Georgia Cancer Alliance Created Mother-Daughter Cervical Cancer Education

The Southeast Georgia Cancer Alliance's (SEGCA) Cervical Health Education Program served as a catalyst for age-appropriate women to seek pap smear testing and HPV vaccination. The "Mother-Daughter Evening Out" instructive approach has been replicated by five of Georgia's regional cancer coalitions and in other parts of the country.  Working with the Coastal Health District and three school district representatives, the public health educational effort addressed cervical cancer with 9th grade girls and their mothers.

School nurses and local public health experts facilitated and presented information on appropriate pap testing, the HPV vaccine and healthy sexual choices and provided participants with cervical cancer prevention tool kits. For details, contact James F. Repella, Ph.D, SEGCA's Executive Director at drrepella@memorialhealth.com.
