The Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology (GASCO), in collaboration with the Georgia Cancer Coalition (GCC), received a grant from the Association of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to assess the current level of cancer patient navigation resources in Georgia, then determine the need for and interest in forming a statewide professional organization for cancer patient navigators.
We need your help. Please take a few moments from your busy schedule to fill out the survey online at www.gasco.us or www.georgiacancer.org or fill in and fax the the printed survey to either 770-951-2157 or 404-584-8404. . Plans are in the making for a professional meeting for cancer patient navigators to be held during the GASCO annual meeting in late July. We believe a professional cancer patient navigator organization will benefit participants by facilitating the sharing of resources, promoting networking, presenting continuing education, providing representation in the legislature, enhancing credibility with healthcare professionals, and building physician support. We hope you agree. All participants will receive a copy of the survey results and a discount on conference attendance. Thanks in advance for your participation. |
CANCER PATIENT NAVIGATION*
Patient Navigation in cancer care refers to individualized assistance offered to patients, families and caregivers to help overcome health care system barriers and facilitate timely access to quality medical and psychosocial care, from pre-diagnosis through all phases of the cancer experience. |
*According to C-Change - key cancer leaders from the government, business and nonprofit sectors. |
Dr. Matt Mumber, President, GASCO
"Patient navigation is a critical adjunct to care of oncology patients and caregivers. A professional organization under GASCO's auspices would give these individuals opportunities to network, share resources, participate in continuing education, secure board representation and obtain access to a lobbyist. This grant gives us the opportunity to research the need and interest of Georgia's cancer patient navigators." | |
