Dear Neighbor:
Help keep the Bradshaw Quarry Convenience Center open! As part of the budgeting process, the county commissioners agreed to close the Bradshaw Quarry Convenience Center, effective September 21st. This action may save the county $140,000 - but it shifts costs to residents who will be forced to haul their trash and recycling 10-15 miles to the Ferguson or Eubanks Convenience Centers.
There are better ways to cut costs without impacting service. One option is to reduce the days/hours of operation at all the convenience centers. Another option is to make the centers self-service, so full time staff isn't needed. With community education, the county can assure that citizens know how to properly dispose of their trash and recycling.
Please Act Now - Write to the commissioners and ask them to keep the Bradshaw Quarry Convenience Center open. Suggest that they reduce the days or hours of operation at all the convenience centers. If you use the Ferguson, Eubanks, or another convenience center, it's especially important to show your support for this idea. Offer other suggestions if you have them.
Please be polite. The commissioners have gone through a grueling budget process and its important to support their cost cutting goals.
Chief Tommy Holmes from the Orange Grove Fire Department has sent a letter to the commissioners expressing his concern about an increase in home trash burning and trash dumping on the side of the road. click here to thank Chief Holmes. So - please call or send a letter to the commissioners ( click here for addresses) and send letters to the papers. Ask your friends to do the same. |
