Tips for the Long Meditation
Suggestions & Etiquette
Bring enough paraphernalia and layers to be comfortable. The heat will be on, but the temperature will be on the cool side. Bring a blanket or cushion for underneath you as well; it's much more comfortable.
Bring your own drinks or snacks for the day.
Leave cell phones home, or be sure to turn them OFF for the day.
Please do not wear clothing that rustles when you move. If you wear a nylon or other "noisy fabric" jacket, please take it off before you enter the room.
Please unwrap cough drops, candy wrappers, etc. outside the room.
Coming and going in the sanctuary can be done with sensitivity, such as walking more lightly than usual, not leaving at breaks unless you really have to, and silently opening the doors without letting them swing on their own.
If you must leave the sanctuary, please wait until a chanting break. The chanting is to take everyone deeper, so please move as silently and carefully as you can - think of a walking meditation.
When using the bathrooms, please silently close the doors without letting them swing on their own. Please plan bathroom breaks at the scheduled break times.
IF YOU HAVE A COLD OR COUGH:
The Yoga Room will be available for those with sniffles. Please do not meditate in the sanctuary if you have a cold or cough. Even a slight cough qualifies for this.
IF YOU CANNOT STAY FOR THE WHOLE MEDITATION:
Please be sensitive to those around you when you get up: gather your things and go.
There will be a break from 12:40-1:00pm for those who can come for only half the day. Other chanting times will happen throughout the day, but we encourage as little moving around as possible during those times. (If you need to come or go during one of these, it's fine.)
Please leave only during a break and not in the middle of a meditation.
Please sit in the back half of the sanctuary so that when you leave you don't disturb those who are staying.
Most of all have a wonderful time, and may the blessings of the gurus be with you!
