Greetings!

Thank you for your continued interest and support in building our Great Start System in Oakland County.  The purpose of the GSC-O is to assure a coordinated system of community resources and support whereby ALL Oakland County families have knowledge of and access to the services they need which will result in their children being prepared and eager to learn.

Where Do These 84 Candidates Stand?
With such a huge election year, it will be important that we know where each of the candidates stand on important issues.  GSC-O and Parent Coalition members will be meeting with candidates over the summer and fall to find out.  If you are interested in joining us, please contact Jamina Tepley.

The Center for Michigan has created The Great Debates 2010 Candidate Issue Guide with key questions and issues for each candidate.

In addition, the Center for Michigan will be hosting a series of debates (3 gubernatorial debates and 50 legislative debates).  Visit the Center for Michigan for more information.
Summer 2010 Children's Champion
Great Start Collaborative-Oakland would like to recognize United Way for Southeastern Michigan as our Summer 2010 Children's Champion.  United Way has been a strong funding partner dedicated to regional investments in early childhood programs.  They are Oakland's Great Start Regional Child Care Resource Center and oversee two Early Learning Community Hubs in Hazel Park and Pontiac.  They have had a strong focus on early literacy through programs such as Imagination Library and Reading Village.  They also hosted the Early Childhood Summit on March 31st. Thank you for focusing much of the work you do towards our youngest children.  To find out more about the work of UWSEM click here
