Greetings!

Matthew 6:26-29:

"Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these."

Who among us doesn't worry? These oft-quoted verses are a wonderful encouragement during times of difficulty and discouragement. Take a moment this week to look at the flowers that are blossoming around you and appreciate their simple beauty. Let them remind you that everything is in God's hands.

If you found this mini-devotion uplifting, consider liking us on Facebook. Every Monday we post verses and quotes to help prepare you for the week!

Event Recap: Abuse Helpers Training with Dr. Dan Allender!

Life Christian Counseling had the distinct privilege of hosting Dr. Dan Allender, the ground breaking expert on healing after sexual trauma. Dr. Allender, along with master therapist Gina Waggoner, MA, explored what we as counselors and ministry leaders can do to help people who are dealing with the destructive and hurtful aftermath of sexual abuse as children.

Dan & Gina Speaking
Dan and Gina speaking to the 100+ counselors in attendance.
Attendees flew in from England and all over the US for the workshop.

Dan & Gina with counselors
Dan and Gina were kind enough to take
time out of their busy schedule to speak to
a few of our counselors about counselor self-perception
and the impact that can have in the counseling room.

Thank you to Dan, Gina and everyone at Largo Community Church, especially Dr. Jack Morris and Tammy Gross, that helped make the event such a success! The life-changing teaching we experienced is going to make a dramatic difference in how we work with this population of hurting people.

Counselor of the Month - Virginia

Robin Jahanian MSW, LCSW

Therapy can be a great opportunity for hope, healing, and change to take place in your life. Whether it's a stressful set of life circumstances or an area in your life that you're struggling with, I look forward to working together with you to find the change that you are looking for.

My diverse professional background has given me the privilege of working with a wide range of clients, such as those experiencing grief, depression, dual diagnosis, and psychiatric emergencies. I have worked in a wilderness residential program for adolescent males, an inpatient psychiatric unit, and an emergency room. I also have worked in a clinic for dual diagnosis patients. I have training in Bowen Family Systems theory and psychoanalytic theory. I specialize in working with adolescent and young adult males and their families.

Additionally, and more importantly I am a born again Christian who believes in the life changing power of the word of God. I believe that knowing the truth that is found in scripture can and will set you free. Also, I believe that God's presence will guide us in the direction that we need to go. So together, utilizing scripture, along with my training and experience, we will explore the issues that you are dealing with.

If you think Robin's background and experience might meet your needs, please contact us for more information.

CEB fbk picI'm still hearing great feedback from attendees to our three day workshop with Dr. Dan Allender. For three days, Dan continually challenged us to think theologically as clinicians.

I'm still reflecting on how to help those who have been abused move toward full healing. One of the most memorable things Dan said really applies to any area of our life where we have suffered harm: We cannot underestimate the power for healing that resides in the choices we make.

In spite of suffering, we can choose to live redemptively...or not. If we do not move toward redemptive living -- which includes embracing and understanding the difficult concept of forgiveness -- we can remain still aligned with the evil done to us. Or, we can with God's help and the help of others, choose to move away from the evil and move towards grace.

Not easy stuff. But, it is for freedom that Christ has set you free.

May you long to experience the power of the risen Christ and the freedom only He can bring.

Blessings,
Chris
